Purpose
This document outlines how to measure a unit to determine the appropriate size needed for a new Solera® awning.
Safety
Warning, Caution and Danger symbols indicate that an installation procedure has a safety risk involved and
may cause death, serious injury or property damage if not performed safely and within the parameters set
forth in this manual.

Always wear eye protection when performing service or maintenance to the unit. Other safety
equipment to consider includes hearing protection, gloves and possibly a full face shield,
depending on the nature of the service.

Moving parts can pinch, crush or cut. Keep clear and use caution.

Awning Sizes and Clearance Requirements
Prior to measuring, review the table below which details basic information needed for a successful awning order.

Procedure for Positioning and Measuring for a New Awning
Determining Awning Location on Unit
+ Typically, the awning will be on the door side/passenger side of the unit.
+ The awning's support rail will need to clear the highest point of entry, whether it be a door or a window, by
2 Ya" to 6" (reference Awning Sizes and Clearance Requirements table on Pg. 1) and as close to the unit top
(or roof/wall line) as possible.
+ The awning's support arms, mounted vertically on the unit, will typically be 63" to 69" in height.
+ Make sure the unit is perfectly level when making measurements.

NOTE: Note the centerline along the Roll Tube/Awning Rail (Fig. 1A and Fig. 1C). Measurements need to
take into consideration that extra room will be needed above and below the centerline for the
awning to fit correctly and safely.

consideration that extra room will be needed to the right and left of the centerline for the awning to

Measuring For the Awning's Width, Awning Rail
NOTE: The awning's width refers to the measurement of the awning rail running horizontally across (left to
right) the side wall of the unit. This measurement is centerline of the left support arm to centerline
of the right support arm (Fig. 1B).
1. Determine what is higher on the unit: the window or the door. Once determined, measure from above
the highest point of entry considering specification needs of desired awning (reference the Awning
Sizes and Clearance Requirements table on Pg. 1).
2. The awning rail will run across the unit anywhere between the minimum clearance height and the
top of the unit roof/wall line (Fig. 1). Determine the desired placement of the awning rail using
measurements, and make a level line across the unit using a non-permanent method of marking.
Using a level may also be necessary.
NOTE: The awning rail must be level and parallel with the floor line of the unit.
3. Onthe awning rail line, mark the desired end points where the support arm assemblies will be placed.
NOTE: Make sure the support arm assemblies will not interfere with any lights, vents or other obstructions.
4. Fromend point to end point, measure along the line to determine the width of the awning rail.
NOTE: To order the awning, the width of the awning will be ordered in feet; rounding up to the next
largest size.
NOTE: Record the measurement to ensure the correct awning size is ordered.

Measuring For the Awning's Height, Support Arm
NOTE: The awning's height refers to the measurement of the support arm that will run vertically (up and
down) the awning wall.
1. From the awning rail line, measure down perpendicularly to determine how much height is on the wall
for the support arms.
2. Depending on measurement, decide which support arm is correct for the unit considering
specification needs of desired awning referencing the Awning Sizes and Clearance Requirements table
on Pg. 1.
3. | Using anon-permanent method of marking, mark a perpendicular line from the awning rail down to
the floor line at the desired placement of the support arm assemblies.
NOTE: Make sure the unit is perfectly level when making perpendicular lines to ensure accurate
measurements and placement.
NOTE: This is the centerline of the support arm assembly. Please consider that extra room will be needed to
the right and left the centerline for the awning to fit correctly and safely.

How to use Measurements to Determine Awning Size for Purchase
+ Have measurements written down correctly.
+ Keep written notes in a convenient place so they can be easily referenced.
+ Understand the awning order will begin with the awning width.
