With Headunit High 3 (HU-H3) installed.

SITUATION
The Central information Display (CID) screen goes black and the Headunit (HU-H3) resets sporadically.
After a short period of time, the function of the CID and HU-H3 is available again.
Additionally, fault code B7F8F9 – “HU-H: Reset” will be stored in the HU-H3.
The issue may occur multiple times while driving longer distances.

CAUSE
Unfavorable communication between HU-H3 and the MyBMW app downloaded to the customer’s mobile
device.

CORRECTION
Have the customer, or with the customer’s permission, update the customer’s MyBMW app to version 4.5.1
or higher.

PROCEDURE
Any MyBMW app that interfaces with the headunit in the vehicle may cause the HU-H3 to reset if below
version 4.5.1. This could be the primary user or any other user that has a BMW ID linked to the vehicle AND
uses the MyBMW app.
Note: The MyBMW app does NOT automatically update on all mobile devices. The customer must manually
update the app on their mobile device periodically from the mobile device app store.
With the customer directly or with the customer’s permission, check the version of the MyBMW app loaded
onto the customer’s mobile device.
1. If the MyBMW app version is already at 4.5.1 or higher, then proceed with standard diagnosis.

2. If the MyBMW app version is lower than 4.5.1, have the customer manually update their MyBMW app on their
mobile device from the mobile device app store; or assist your customer directly as needed. Then proceed with
standard diagnosis to verify the repair.

When it is necessary, with the customer directly or with the customer’s permission, to check the version of
the MyBMW app that is installed on a mobile device, please use the following these steps:
1. In the MyBMW app, select the profile tab and press the “About My BMW app” link at the bottom of the page.

2. Check the app version that is listed on the “About” page.

Please advise the personnel in each center who are responsible for interacting with the customers (service
writers, Genius associates, etc.) about this Service Information Bulletin. This will help prepare customers,
prior to arriving at the center, to have their mobile devices present and accessible during the workshop visit
if possible.
It will also allow the personnel to have informed conversations with the customers about their MyBMW app
usage and explain to them that the app does not update automatically. This will provide personnel with a
chance to encourage customers before a workshop visit to update their MyBMW app if they have not done
so recently and possibly avoid a workshop visit.
Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10).

the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.

Other Repairs (After Confirming and/or Installing the Latest Version of the MyBMW App)
If other eligible and covered work is performed because of performing the ISTA diagnostics, related test
plans, and/or other approved diagnosis procedures, claim this work with the applicable Repair Code listed in
AIR together with the corresponding labor operation codes and their flat rate unit (FRU) allowance(s),
including the diagnosis* that applies.
(*) Based on which one applies to your center, please refer to SI B01 01 20 or B01 07 20 for the applicable
procedure for documenting, claiming, and explaining, on the RO and in the claim comments, your diagnosis work
time (WT), job/repair work time (WT), and the vehicle repairs your center performed, unless otherwise required by
State law.

BMW Group’s AIR Application Resource for Flat Rate Labor Operation Codes
To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application
resource, start by entering the the Chassis Number (last seven (7) characters of the VIN), and click on the
“Search” icon. If the “Vehicle Selection” window displays two or more model possible vehicle choices, select
the applicable Model, or enter the full VIN (17 characters) instead to proceed. Click on the “Flat Rate Units”
button and enter a flat rate labor operation code number “without spaces,” and/or the applicable terms in the
field to the right, click on the “Search” icon to display the corresponding listing of “Flat rate unit group details”
that are available and their corresponding FRU allowances.
