SITUATION
The inverter or (EGS-EME) Electrical Machine Electronics Transmission Control supply line may be
damaged due to improper routing. This can cause Check Control Message (CCM) warnings, or in some
instances the vehicle may slowly coast to a stop during purely electric driving.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicles which require this campaign to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR, AWP,
Campaign Summary, or Warranty Vehicle Inquiry
Please make sure you check your dealer inventory as soon as possible. You can see a list of affected vehicles in
Inventory Campaign Details (ICD) under ROSS.
For centers that qualify, this Service Action repair is eligible to be performed via Mobile Assistance

CAUSE
(EGS-EME) Electrical Machine Electronics Transmission Control supply line routing.

CORRECTION
Visually check, and if necessary, rework the inverter supply line.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the rear underbody protection, refer to repair instructions “Removing refitting/replacing rear engine
undercover 51 47 491 | REP-REP-P-5147491-G05 - V.6”.

2. Remove the stiffening plate, refer to repair instructions “Removing and installing/replacing thrust field 31 11 040 |
REP-REP-P-3111040-G05_B58AWD - V.5.”

3. Improper routing and sharp edges of the High
Voltage (HV) cable support bracket may damage
the EGS-EME supply line harness.

4. Inspect the Inverter Supply line for damage. Is the
EGS-EME harness damaged?

YES, proceed with step 5.
NO, continue to step 7.

5. Repair any damage to the low voltage (LV) supply lines, per the “Notes on handling wiring harness and cables 61 00.. |
REP-REP-RAF0161-6100_KABELBAUM – V.26”.

6. After a wiring repair or inspection, cover the harness with fabric adhesive tape (abrasion-resistant) (e.g., P/N 61 13
6925452).

7. Ensure the harness is properly routed and
secure.

8. Is the EGS-EME harness routed on the (B)
side of the HV cable support bracket as
depicted in the image on the left?
YES, continue to step 12.
NO, proceed to step 9.

9. Remove the existing cable ties located around the HV cable bracket.
CAUTION: high-voltage cable! When opening and closing the cable straps, be sure to observe repair
“Notes for opening and closing cable ties REH-HIN-P-6125-5 - V.10”.
10. Reposition the EGS-EME harness to the
(B) side of the HV cable bracket, as pictured
above.

11. Secure the EGS-EME harness utilizing
new cable ties.

12. Install the stiffening plate, refer to repair instructions “Removing and installing/replacing thrust field 31 11 040 | REPREP-P-3111040-G05_B58AWD - V.5.”

13. Install the rear underbody protection, refer to repair instructions “Removing refitting/replacing rear engine undercover
51 47 491 | REP-REP-P-5147491-G05 - V.6”.

To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application
resource, start by entering the Chassis Number (the last seven (7) characters of the VIN, select the
applicable Model if two or more vehicle choices show), or enter the full VIN (17 characters), click on the
“Search” button. Next, click on the “Flat Rate Units” button and enter the flat rate labor operation code in the
field to the right, click “Search” to display the Flat Rate Unit Group detail choices.
Alternative Mobility Solution (AMS) for Vehicle Owners (RO and Claim Comments Required)
This Service Action repair qualifies for Alternative Mobility Solution (AMS) expense reimbursement, claim
this item under the Defect Code noted above as follows:
