General Motors is releasing Service Update N232434060 today.
What Should Dealers Do: Dealers should review IVH or the Dealer Maxis
reports for open VINs in their inventory. Dealers can view the attached
bulletin and it will also be displayed in Service Information tomorrow.
The Stock VIN list of vehicles in dealer inventory is attached to this message.
Note: this list is only accurate at the time of report creation and all VINs should
be validated in IVH prior to repair.

This service update includes vehicles in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the
dealership for any reason. This bulletin will expire at the end of the involved vehicle’s New Vehicle Limited
Warranty period.
The repairs outlined in this bulletin must only be completed at an authorized EV dealer and repairs
must be performed by a technician who has successfully completed the applicable technical training
required to perform this repair.

Open the Tonneau Cover to allow access to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) located on the left side of the
canister and the Tonneau Cover Motor located on the right side of the canister mounted near the front of the pickup
box.

Press the front button on the Tonneau Cover side rail to open the Cover.

If the Power Tonneau Cover does not operate, push the motor clutch button located at right side of the canister
to disengage the motor, then push the cover slats forward.

Follow the steps below to remove the Power Tonneau Cover ECU.
•
Disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in SI.
•
Remove the three 6mm screws that hold the ECU to the canister using a 4mm Allen wrench.
•
Disconnect 4 electrical connectors. 3 on the back and one on the top with rubber boot. Connectors have a lock
lever on the side to release them.
Install the NEW ECU.
•
Connect the 4 electrical connectors. Match the symbols on the wires to the symbols on the side of the ECU.
Make sure the connectors are snapped in completely by pulling on them.
•
Mount the ECU to the Canister using 6mm hex screws.
•
Connect the NEGATIVE Battery Cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in SI.

Remove the 6mm screw from the Motor Cover using a 4mm Allen wrench. Remove the Motor Cover.

Important: If the Power Tonneau Cover Motor is damaged, submit a photo of the damaged Motor in GWM when
submitting the claim for this field action. FAILURE TO INCLUDE A PHOTO OF THE DAMAGED MOTOR MAY CAUSE
CLAIM TO REJECT.

Inspect the Power Tonneau Cover Motor for damage such as leakage or any visible brown substance on the motor.
•
If the Power Tonneau Cover Motor IS NOT damaged, proceed to Step 11.
•
If the Power Tonneau Cover Motor IS damaged, proceed to Step 7.

Important: DO NOT DISCARD THE POWER TONNEAU COVER MOTOR. A PHOTO OF THE DAMAGED MOTOR
WILL BE REQUIRED WHEN SUBMITTING THE CLAIM IN GWM. FAILURE TO INCLUDE A PHOTO OF THE
DAMAGED MOTOR MAY CAUSE CLAIM TO REJECT.
Note: To remove the Power Tonneau Cover Motor, remove the two black fasteners from the right hand side of the
motor, and the one black fastener on the top of the motor assembly.
Note: Be sure the wiring is routed as shown. Wiring positioned between the motor and the side rail will cause difficulty
fully removing the motor from the drive pin.

Remove the two 6mm screws located on the outboard side of the Motor using a 4mm Allen wrench. Remove the
single 6mm screw located above the manual release button using the 4mm Allen wrench. Then remove the Motor
assembly from the Tonneau Cover Canister by first pushing the Motor outboard to disengage from the drive pin,
then pulling down to clear the side rail.

Remove the wire tie holding the 2 electrical connectors. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
Important: Ensure the photo of the damaged Tonneau Cover Motor is in focus, and clearly shows the area of
damage.
Note: When uploading the photo to the claim in GWM ensure the file size is less than 20MB.

Take a photo of the damaged Power Tonneau Cover Motor that clearly shows the area of damage.
Reconnect the 2 electrical connectors into the NEW Power Tonneau Cover Motor. Use a wire tie to affix the wiring
harness to the body of the Motor.

10. Reinstall the NEW Power Tonneau Cover Motor to the Drive Pin of the Power Tonneau Cover Canister. Tighten the
fasteners to 5.5 Nm (49 lb in).

11. Reinstall the Motor Cover.
12. Calibrate the Tonneau Cover:
•
Unlock the Passenger doors and open the end gate.
•
Ensure the Motor is engaged and pulled out completely.
•
Press and hold both buttons (open/close) for 10 seconds until the light on the Motor Cover pulses and the
Cover begins to cycle. Then release the buttons.
•
The Tonneau Cover will open and close twice automatically until calibration is complete.
•
If required, refer to Power Tonneau Cover Malfunction in SI for any further calibration assistance.

Dealer Responsibility
Whenever a vehicle subject to this service update enters your vehicle inventory or is in your facility for service in the
future, and the vehicle is still covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, you must take the steps necessary to be
sure the service update correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
All new, used, GM Certified Pre-Owned (CPO), courtesy transportation vehicles, dealer shuttle vehicles, CarBravo, etc.
in dealers' possession and subject to this field action must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of
this bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles. Involved vehicles must be held and not delivered to
customers, dealer-traded, released to auction, used for demonstration, or any other purpose.
All GM Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles currently in the dealers’ inventory within the SHIFT Digital system will be
de-certified and must be held and remedied per the service procedure in this bulletin. Upon submitting an accepted/paid
warranty transaction in the Global Warranty Management (GWM) system, the vehicle can be re-certified for sale within
the SHIFT Digital system, or once again be used in the Courtesy Transportation Program.
