SUBJECT:
This bulletin provides information to update the Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) software on certain 2020-2024MY
Telluride (ON) vehicles manufactured from January 9, 2019 through March 10, 2024. The wheel speed
sensor(s) (WSS) in the subject vehicles may be contaminated with moisture and cause corrosion, which may
result in WSS signal fluctuation. If this condition occurs, in rare cases, WSS signal fluctuation may result in
intermittent and momentary Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) activation at low speeds while braking.
Customers may also experience an illumination of the ABS Warning light. The ability to stop the vehicle is
unaffected by this issue.
Before conducting the procedure, dealers are to check if the vehicle is also affected by SC303 campaign and
if affected, confirm that the ‘ABS/ESC’ system software upgrade has been completed under SC303.
Dealers should refer to SC301Y (Subsequent Repair) in case there is an ABS warning lamp ON and/or
a rear Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) DTC is stored after the software update is completed.
SC301Y TSB to be available the week of May 23, 2024.
NOTICE
There is no charge to the vehicle owner for this repair.
Repair status for a VIN is provided on KDealer+ (Service → Warranty Coverage → Warranty
Coverage Inquiry → Campaign Information). Not completed Recall / Service Action reports are
available on KDealer+ (Consumer Affairs → Not Completed Recall → Recall VIN → Select Report),
which includes a list of affected vehicles.

ECU Upgrade Procedure:
To correct this condition, the ECU should be reprogrammed using the KDS
download, as described in TSB SST081.
Upgrade Event Name
730.ON ON PE ABS/ESC Wheel Speed Sensor and Electronic Parking Brake Logic Improvement
2020-2024MY VINs – If the affected VIN is also included in SC303, complete SC303
first (1st) , and then, claim this repair under SC301 (Op Code 240A19R0).
Note: Some affected 2024MY VINs are not included in SC303. If a 2024MY VIN is not
included in SC303, complete/claim this repair under SC301 (Op Code 240A19R1).
NOTICE
•
Confirm a fully charged battery (12.3 volts or higher is necessary) is used or utilize a fully
charged jump starter
box connected to the battery.
•
Ensure the KDS GDS is sufficiently charged at 60% or higher prior to reflash.
•
All ECU upgrades must be performed with the ignition set to the ‘ON’ position unless otherwise
stated.
•
Damaged VCI II units should not be used and promptly replaced.
•
Be careful not to disconnect the VCI-II connected to the vehicle during the ECU upgrade
procedure.
•
DO NOT start the engine during ECU upgrade.
•
DO NOT turn the ignition key ‘OFF’ or interrupt the power supply during ECU upgrade.
•
When the ECU upgrade is completed, turn the ignition ‘OFF’ and wait 10 seconds before
starting the engine.
•
ONLY use approved ECU upgrade software designated for the correct application.
IMPORTANT
It is recommended to ALWAYS check the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to locate the ECU Part
Number respective to Auto/Manual Mode ROM IDs. DO NOT reference the parts label affixed to
the ECU.
If a ‘Communication Fail’ error notice appears or the upgrade cannot be performed, DO NOT
disconnect the KDS/VCI-II. Contact GIT America Help Desk at (888) 542-4371 or Techline.
Before attempting an ECU upgrade on any Kia model, make sure to first determine whether the
applicable model is equipped with an immobilizer
(IMMO) security system. Failure to follow
proper procedures may cause the PCM to become inoperative after the upgrade and any claims
associated with this repair may be subject to chargeback.
