Subject: Emission Recall D24R1 DETROIT™ DD16® Ordered with 560
HP/1850 LB-FT MCM Reprogramming
Models Affected: DD16 Engines with GATS 2.0 Aftertreatment (473.910)

General Information
Daimler Truck North America LLC, on behalf of its DETROITTM Powertrain Division, is initiating Emission Recall D24R1
to modify the vehicles mentioned above.
Certain DETROITTM Model Year 2022 and 2023 DD16® engines with GATS 2.0 aftertreatment, ordered with 560
HP/1850 LB-FT rating (sales code 101-2YR), received 530 HP/1850 LB-FT rating at the factory.
Some engines received a Certified Emission label printed with 530 HP @ 1800 RPM. These engines will require label
replacement and reprogramming.
Most engines received the correct Certified Emission label and only require reprogramming.
Both 2022 and 2023 built engines require a minimum of the MCM software version and fuel map version listed below:


Updated programming became available in August 2023 for DD16® powered vehicles, with GATS 2.0 aftertreatment,
ordered with 560 HP/1850 LB-FT.
DD16® powered vehicles, with GATS 2.0 aftertreatment, need the MCM reprogrammed. The TCM01T does not need
programming at the time of this letter’s release. This may change in the future.
Engines with a 530 HP Certified Emission label need the label replaced with a new one reflecting 560 HP @
1800 RPM.




All units REQUIRE a Certified Emission label that matches the actual horsepower rating.
Failure to remove an incorrect label and replace it with a proper label, is considered emission tampering.
For those that need Certified Emission label replacement, it is recommended to schedule an appointment for
an update. This should allow the service location to order the replacement label prior to vehicle arrival, which
should avoid unnecessary down time.
 Labels MUST be installed prior to releasing any vehicle with a rating change.
 Labels MUST be installed by a dealer.
 Labels CANNOT be provided to customers for installation.

The new fuel map corrects the 560 HP/1850 LB-FT rating for DD16® with GATS 2.0 aftertreatment applications.
There are approximately 653 engines affected by this emission recall in U.S. and Canada.
Note that some engines may already be reprogrammed. These engines are excluded from this Emission Recall and
the currently available software levels may be higher than the minimum levels shown above.

Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle.
A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or
delivery of a vehicle. Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete
campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification. Please contact Warranty Campaigns for consideration
of additional charges prior to performing the repair.

Work Instructions
Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing the Emission Recall, check the vehicle for a
red completion sticker (Form WAR260).

Replacement Parts
Replacement parts are now available and can be obtained from the Order Center on the DTNA Portal. Refer to
Certified Emission Label Ordering Instructions on page 18.
IMPORTANT: The Emission Certification Label must be ordered before the customer arrives to avoid unnecessary
downtime. Please allow five to seven days for label shipment.

Removed Parts
The emission label is designed to be removed in pieces. After replacement, the removed label must be attached to
the certified emission label check sheet. Attach an image of the completed check sheet, with the removed label, to
the warranty claim. The "Certified Emission Label Check Sheet" located on page 17 MUST BE ATTACHED to
the claim in the Online Warranty Link (OWL) System if the label is replaced.

Claim Reimbursement
IMPORTANT: OWL must be viewed prior to performing the recall to ensure the vehicle is involved and the campaign
has not been previously completed. Also, check for a completion sticker prior to beginning work.
You will be reimbursed for your parts, labor, and handling (landed cost for Export Distributors) by submitting your
claim through the Warranty system within 30 days of completing this campaign.


In OWL, use the ‘Retrieve’ function and select the appropriate procedure. This will auto-populate the
PFP component code, replacement parts, cause, corrective action and SRT code in OWL.
