1. Overview
Through continuous product quality monitoring, McLaren Automotive has identified an inconsistency in seat tightening
torque on some seat fixings of certain McLaren vehicles.
With immediate effect, McLaren Automotive is instructing Retailers to check the torque, retorque if needed and report
the results for all fixings of both driver and passenger seats of all vehicles within the supplied VIN range.

Care Point: Only technicians who have completed the McLaren Artura Training are allowed to work on McLaren
Artura vehicles
Care Point: Prior to commencing the procedure, find and download the ‘Check Sheet’ attached with this Bulletin
Care Point: Submission of the filled out ‘Check Sheet’ is mandatory with every Warranty claim under this Service
Campaign

Care Point: Usage of calibrated torque wrenches is mandatory. Torque wrenches used must be within their calibration
period and with a valid calibration certificate
To carry out the required checks, please follow the steps below:
Step 1
Follow the relevant SIS instruction depending on the seat type fitted to gain access to all the fixings/bolts that hold
each seat (driver and passenger) to the vehicle carbon fibre tub.
Step 2
Carry out a visual check of the seat fixings/bolts.
Confirm that there is no gap between the bolt heads and seat frame and record the condition in the relevant section of
the ‘Check Sheet’ attached with this Bulletin (Gap – NOK, No Gap/flush – OK).
If a gap is present, ensure that there are no obstacles/debris under the bolt head or that the bolt is not cross threaded
and continue to the next steps.
Inspect the condition of the bolt heads and confirm they are free of damage or wear.
If damage or wear to the bolt heads is present, the bolt should be replaced using the appropriate part number from
SPC.
Step3
Prepare two calibrated torque wrenches and appropriate sockets. One should be used for the torque test and the
other should be used for tightening of any bolt if identified that is needed during the test.

1st torque wrench – checking: torque check setting 20Nm

-

2nd torque wrench – tightening: tightening torque setting 25Nm

Step 4
Use the 1st torque check wrench (20Nm) to carry out the test on each one of the eight (8) bolts (both seats).
Fit the tool on the bolt head and carry out a clockwise tightening motion.
The tool should achieve the specified torque immediately without any rotation of the bolt.
Step 5
If the tool achieves the specified torque immediately without any rotation of the bolt, stop the tightening action and
mark this bolt as ‘OK’ in the ‘Check Sheet’ attached with this Bulletin. Proceed to torque check the rest of the bolts.
Step 6
If rotation occurs before the 1st torque check wrench achieved the specified torque (20Nm), continue to tighten until it
does. Approximately measure the angle in degrees it took to tighten to 20Nm.
Mark that bolt as ‘NOK’ and record the angle in degrees in the ‘Check Sheet’ attached with this Bulletin.

Change to the 2nd torque tightening wrench (25Nm).
Fit the tool on the bolt head and start a new clockwise tightening motion until the 2 nd tool achieves the specified
torque. Once 25Nm has been achieved, stop the tightening action.
Step 7
Repeat steps 4 through 6 as needed until all eight (8) bolts of both seats have been checked, correctly torqued and the
results have been recorded in the ‘Check Sheet’.

3. Warranty Information
Submit a claim to the McLaren Warranty department following completion of the work, using the following details.
The completed ‘Check Sheet’ for each VIN as described in section 2 (Procedure) above, must be attached with every
individual Warranty Claim for it to be processed.

4. Affected Vehicles
Affected vehicles will be flagged in the Retailer Portal when next opening a Workshop Visit related to the vehicle. Your
Regional Aftersales Manager will also contact you with a VIN list of affected vehicles.
