Update of recycling partner information

Condition
The 12 V Li-ion starter battery voltage is too low and the contactor has opened. From the customer’s standpoint,
the vehicle battery is dead. The workshop confirms this condition.

Technical Background
The workshop will recycle this ‘dead’ battery in different ways, depending on if the technician classifies the battery
as critical or noncritical.
For important information about classification, please see relevant workshop manuals.
Service Information
If you need to recycle the 12 V vehicle battery and you classify the battery as noncritical, please recycle the battery
using the steps below. (Also see the High Voltage Battery PPN space.)

1.
Take a photo of the battery with the serial number visible along with the results of a voltage test.

(See figures 1 and 2).
2.
Fill out the attached “Porsche LRF Template” form & send an email requesting a safe Li-ion battery
container to: [email protected].

The subject of the email must include the term “Noncritical.”
3.
Redwood will schedule the shipment of the container and provide packing and pickup instructions.
If you classify the 12 V vehicle battery as critical, it may be possible to correct the fault and recover the battery.
Store the battery in a safe manner and in a safe location. (See applicable workshop media for tips.)
Follow these steps:
Try to close the contactor with the battery outside the vehicle
1.
Connect the battery to the Deutronic charger and supply power to the battery. Wait 30 seconds for the

contactor to close. (You will hear a click if it closes.)

a.
If the contactor closes, reclassify the battery.

b.
If the contactor does not close, proceed to step 2.
2.
Wait 48 hours.
3.
Reconnect the battery to the Deutronic charger and try to close the contactor again.

a.
If the contactor closes, reclassify the battery.

b.
If the contactor does not close, proceed to step 4.
The battery is critical and you cannot close the contactor. It is irrecoverable. Document the critical battery and
prepare to ship it to the recycler.
4.
Take a photo of the battery with the serial number visible along with the results of a voltage test. (See

figures 1 and 2).
