Granturismo – Engine cooling fan Check

Certain Maserati GranTurismo (M189) MY24 listed in MODISCS+ are involved in a Rapid Update
to inspect and possibly replace the engine cooling fan.
On a limited batch of vehicles, it is necessary to verify that the engine cooling fan is correctly
installed and does not come into contact with non-moving parts of the chassis. If the fan is
misaligned, it may potentially interfere with other stationary components. Consequently, the
procedure involves a specific inspection process and, if necessary, the replacement of the fan
assembly.
We remind you that all the Rapid Updates must be performed within the first workshop visit,
regardless of the Mandatory setting set in Modis, as required by Maserati policies.
Also, for vehicles in Stock Dealer / PDI, it is necessary to carry out all action operations before
delivery to the end customer, as required by the White Book and explicitly reported in the Predelivery checklist.

This action involves a “Visual/physical inspection” as well as performing an “ACTIVE TEST” of the fan using
the EVO scantool.

1. Always check ModisCS+ to see if the vehicle is involved in this action and if it has not been
previously performed.
2. Make sure the vehicle is completely shut off! (No active electronics)
3. Safely raise the vehicle using a lift and proceed with the disassembly of the front underbody
guard following the procedure given in the workshop manual:
a. 09.14.001 FRONT UNDERBODY SHELTER – Removal/Refitting – Replacement

Visual/Physical inspection of the Fan
Note: It is recommended to wear gloves when performing the inspection.
1. Identify the fan and check that it is free to move, manually spin the fan a few turns. Make
sure that the movement is fluid and doesn’t bind.
2. If the movement is smooth and doesn’t bind the fan is OK. Proceed with the ACTIVE TEST.

ACTIVE TEST using the EVO scantool.
1. With the ignition button in the “Engine Off / Run position” connect the EVO to the vehicle.
2. Select > ECM_V6 >Active Diagnosis > “Fan Return”.

3. Select “Activate” and click “Execute”

4. Wait 5 seconds. At this stage, you should hear the fan turn ON. This check is necessary to
ensure that the fan activates correctly.

5. On the next screen, click "Next" without changing the command in the drop-down menu.

6. Perform the operation 3 (three) consecutive times and check that there are no problems or
any type of errors that may trigger.
7. If there are no errors/DTCs and the fan operates without issue then the vehicle is considered
compliant, and no further action is required. Reinstall all removed components. Release
the vehicle.
8. If issues occur either during the visual/Physical inspection or with the EVO scantool the fan
must be replaced following the instructions in the workshop manual:
