Summary
Service Bulletin - Customers are seeing the Electric Power Steering (EPS) System Indicator on the instrument panel due to the 12-volt battery degrading. It can cause low voltage to be detected during an ignition cycle. This causes the steering angle calculation to stop, which leads to DTC U3000-49 for the EPS.

Customers are seeing the Electric Power Steering (EPS) System Indicator on the instrument panel.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
If the 12-volt battery has degraded, it can cause low voltage to be detected during an ignition cycle. This causes the
steering angle calculation to stop, which leads to DTC U3000-49 for the EPS.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Update the EPS Unit software for vehicles in the affected VIN range. If the vehicle is outside the affected VIN range, follow
normal troubleshooting procedures. If instructed to replace the EPS motor, make sure the software is updated to the latest
version.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Check if the VIN is in the Affected VIN range.
2. If the VIN is part of the affected range, proceed to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
NOTE:
If a vehicle is outside of the affected VIN range, follow normal troubleshooting procedures.
If instructed to replace the EPS motor, make sure the software is updated to the latest version.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTICE
Unnecessary or incorrect repairs resulting from a reprogramming session will not be covered under warranty.
Control module failure caused by the improper completion of a software update (early key cycle, low battery
voltage, disconnected Data Link Connector (DLC) cable, etc.) is not covered by warranty.
If a problem occurs while reprogramming, keep the ignition turned to ON and do not disconnect the battery.
Do the following to minimize the chances of damaging the control unit/module:
Do not disconnect the battery or turn the ignition to OFF.
Follow the on-screen instructions from the Honda ECU Reprogramming application.
If the reprogramming issue persists, try disconnecting the VCI from the vehicle’s DLC. Restart the Honda ECU
Reprogramming application. Then, reconnect the VCI to the vehicle’s DLC and retry the reprogramming
procedure.
1. Make sure the 12-volt battery is fully charged before starting an update.
2. Connect a fully charged jumper battery pack, the Midtronics GR8-110P AST in Power Supply Mode or the
Midtronics DCA-8000 Dynamic Diagnostic Charging System in Reflash Mode, directly to the vehicle’s 12-volt
battery. Leave it connected during the entire procedure to maintain a steady voltage.
NOTE: If the vehicle’s 12-volt battery drops below 10 volts during the update, the programming status bar may not
present accurately, or the Honda ECU Reprogramming application may display an error message.
3. Update the EPS software using the Honda ECU Reprogramming application with the DST-i. Refer to Service
Bulletin 22-100, Updating Control Units/Modules with the ECU Reprogramming Application.
NOTE: If the message Ensure all connections are secured between the PCI, VCI, and Vehicle appears,
make sure the VCI name correctly matches the VCI device in use. Example name Denso DST-i.
4. Do an ALL DTC CHECK and clear any codes that may have set during the update.
5. Do the VSA Sensor Neutral Position Memorization procedure:
1. Set the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
2. Park the vehicle on a flat and level surface.
3. Connect the i-HDS to the DLC.
NOTICE
Do not press the brake pedal during this process.
4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, but do not start the engine.
5. Select ADJUSTMENT from the ABS/TCS/VSA menu with the i-HDS, then select ALL SENSOR, and follow the
screen prompts.
6. Perform the All Sensor Learn.
1. Using the i-HDS choose the SYSTEM SELECTION MENU.
2. Select ABS/VSA.
3. Select ADJUSTMENT.
4. Select ALL SENSOR.
5. Select YES to perform calibration for all sensors.
NOTE:
If a DTC appears after the software is up to date, follow the service manual for troubleshooting procedures.
Warranty reimbursement for technician labor is not allowed for routine checking/installation of any available
software update.
