Summary
This Preliminary information communicates an issue where the minor tailgate step link can contact the painted surface and chip the paint on the tailgate. Dealers are to adjust the step link bracket to provide clearance between the link and painted surface to prevent contact with the painted surface.

QK2 - Multipro / Multi ex Tailgate
Some customers may comment that the minor / auxiliary endgate step link is
contacting the tailgate paint causing a chip in the paint, shown below (1). This
condition may occur at either the left and/or right step links.
The cause of this concern could be build variation in the step link bracket mounting
position during assembly.
Correction:
To correct this condition, reposition the step link bracket (3) up and away to slightly lift the step link o the
painted surface, shown below (4). Loosen both step link bracket bolts at the left and right sides of the minor
tailgate, left side shown below (2). With the step link bracket bolts loose there will be some play in the bracket to
allow for repositioning. Starting with the right side step link bracket, lift up on the bracket to achieve and
maintain clearance at call out 4 then tighten both mounting bolts (2) to 40 Nm (30 lb. ft). Repeat the procedure
for the left side step link bracket. If necessary, a small pry bar can be used to help lift the step link bracket then
tighten the bolts (2). There is no need for rust protection where the paint is damaged because the endgate is
made from aluminum but touch up paint can be used to x the paint chip.
If clearance cannot be achieved or maintained after adjustment, please submit a Field Product Report (FPR) with
detailed photos per the latest version of bulletin 02-00-89-002W.
