Currently, more and more engines are being replaced or attempts are made to repair
more and more engines due to complaints about noise coming from around the oil
pump/crank drive.

•

The engines complained about and replaced were examined on the test stand.

 In the event of a customer complaint, the noise in question must be compared with the noise
in the sound file before doing any other work, see chapter ‘3D Information’.
Following analysis of the queried rattling noise, we can clarify the following points:
•

It is a specific noise from the engine mechanics,

•

has no effect on correct engine operation and

•

can occur in any vehicle type specified above with a 4.0-liter engine as of MY 2018.

 Replacing the engine is not authorized in the event of a complaint about this noise.

Wear personal protective gear.
Listen to the noise coming from the vehicle and compare it with the recording in the sound file.
To document the problem in PCSS, record the noise and attach the sound file to the PQIS job.

The following conditions must be met in order to compare the noise coming from the vehicle:

The engine oil temperature is approx. 90° [C]  engine is at operating temperature.
The measurement is taken at a distance of approx. 1 meter/ 3.28 ft straight under the center of
the oil guide module.
The engine is running at idle speed  revs are increased to 2,000 rpm  revs oscillate
between 2,000 rpm and 2,500 rpm  revs drop to idle speed.

Compare the noise with the stored sound file (see 3D Information).
If the noise is the same, inform the customer about this technical symptom.

Information
On 911 (992) vehicles, the 5 self-locking screws PAF910423 (hexalobular socket head cap
screw M6 x 16) on the rear bottom spoiler (diffusor) must always be replaced after each removal.
