Retrofit Headlamp Housing Screws

This is to notify you of the Service Campaign Launch to retrofit the headlamp housing screws on 2,461 Model Year (“MY”) 2022 SL
(232 platform) vehicles. The vehicles will be visible and flagged in VMI as “OPEN” on January 19, 2024.

Background
Issue

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has
determined that on certain MY 2022 SL vehicles, certain banjo bolts on the headlamp
housing may cause corrosion on the body-in-white over the service life of the vehicle.

What We’re Doing

MBUSA will conduct a service campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will
retrofit the headlamp housing screws.

Parts

The remedy is available and can be performed as necessary.

Retrofit Headlamp Housing Screws

Mercedes-Benz AG (“MBAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that
on certain MY 2022 SL vehicles, certain banjo bolts on the headlamp housing may cause corrosion
on the body-in-white over the service life of the vehicle.

Prior to performing this Campaign:


VMI must be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on
a specific vehicle. Always check for any other open campaigns, and perform accordingly.



Please review the entire Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.

Approximately 2,461 vehicles are affected.

Retrofit Headlamp Housing Screws
Work Procedure
1. Clean and dry bonding area on washer (1, Figure 1) of left and right headlamp housing screws. Use a suitable
cleaning agent for this purpose. Subsequently dry the bonding area on the washer (1, Figure 1) with a lint-free
cloth.
Reference: AR82.10-P-4733SLY, see bumper to headlamp dimension "F” for the affected headlamp housing
screws.
The bonding area on the washer (1, Figure 1) must be completely free of dust and grease. There may
otherwise be problems with adhesion.

2. Coat washer (1, Figure 2) on left and right headlamp housing screws and felt (2, Figure 2) with windshield
adhesive.
The entire contact surface must be coated with windshield adhesive.
3. Glue felt (2, Figure 2) onto washer (1, Figure 2) of left and right headlamp housing screws so that it is flush.
4. Remove any excess adhesive with a lint-free cloth and suitable cleaning agent.
Driving at a speed above 74 mph should be avoided in the first 24 hours.
