DESCRIPTION
Newmar Corporation Service Department was made aware of a Captain Chair Pedestal
manufactured by Villa International that had the welds break at the pedestal-to-base plate
connection. The weld breaking would cause the seat to no longer comply with FMVSS 207 and
210. Villa filed NHTSA recall # 23E098. In response, Newmar has filed NHTSA # 24V 019 and
TC# 2024-016.
ISSUE
The improper weld from the seat pedestal-to-base plate could fail in an accident, which could
increase the risk of injury.
UNITS AFFECTED
Please refer to the attached population list for unit and VIN numbers possibly affected.
CUSTOMER ACTION
Have the seat pedestal inspected for proper welds at a Newmar authorized service center, and
if found to have improper welds, a new seat pedestal will be installed to meet the compliance
FMVSS 207/210 requirements.
DEALER ACTION
Inspection of the seats in the vehicles included in the recall is necessary to identify if a
replacement pedestal is required on the Villa driver and/or passenger seats. A drawing provided
by Villa International is attached to help identify the potentially defective weld. If the vehicle
inspection reveals that the pedestal(s) do not have the proper weld, then the pedestal(s) are
required to be replaced for the affected seat(s). Inspection includes taking and submitting
photo(s) of the inspected seat pedestals and their welds. If the pedestal(s) fail inspection and
require replacement, the seat pedestal(s) must be returned. If you need assistance, contact your
Newmar Service Account Manager.

Subject: Recall Campaign NHSTA #24V-019: Incorrect Seat Pedestal Weld
Newmar Campaign No.: 608 RSB
This notice is sent to you as a Newmar Dealer in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic
and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Newmar Corporation has decided that a non-compliance, which relates to
motor vehicle safety, exists in specific Newmar recreational vehicles.
REASON FOR THIS RECALL
Newmar Corporation Service Department was made aware of 2022 Dutch Star Captain Chair Pedestal
manufactured by Villa International that had the welds break at the pedestal to base plate connection.
The weld breaking would bring the seat out of compliance with FMVSS 207 and 210.
The improper weld from the seat pedestal to base plate not meeting FMVSS 207/210 requirements
could fail in an accident which could increase the risk of an injury.
Motorhomes included in this recall include:
2022-2023 Dutch Star Class A motorhomes.
2022-2023 Mountain Aire Class A motorhomes.
2022-2023 London Aire Class A motorhomes.
2022-2023 Essex Class A motorhomes.
2016 London Aire Class A motorhome (New seat installed in service included in population list)
OWNER NOTIFICATION
Villa International will be conducting this recall in its entirety. Newmar will notify the owner by mail and
instruct them to take their motorhome to an authorized service facility to have the seat pedestal
inspected for proper welds and if found to have improper welds a new seat pedestal will be installed to
bring the seat into compliance with FMVSS 207/210 requirements.
DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY
Dealers are to provide to all customers/owner vehicles the service of completing this campaign at no
charge to the customer/owner regardless of vehicle age, vehicle mileage, or ownership at the time of
repair.
PLEASE NOTE: Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is
delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty.
Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
Inspection of the seats in the vehicles included in the recall is necessary in order to identify if a repair is
required on the Villa driver and passenger seats. A drawing provided by Villa International will be
provided to help identify the defective weld. If the vehicle inspection reveals that the pedestal does
have the improper weld, then the pedestal is required to be replaced for that seat.
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires that each vehicle, which is subject to a recall
campaign of this type, must be satisfactorily repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has
tendered it for repair. Every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each
owner and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. Vehicle owners are being notified of this recall and
have been instructed to contact Newmar and/or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration if
the condition is not remedied within a reasonable time.

Subject: Villa seating recall notification
This letter was sent in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Villa International has determined that certain Newmar motor-homes equipped with Villa passenger
seating fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard no. 207, “seating systems”.
The safety defect involves the pedestal used on Villa ABTS driver and passenger seating where the
seat assembly is attached to the pedestal and serves as an anchorage to the vehicle.
On certain seat pedestals the can may be improperly welded to the mounting plate. The pedestal in
the affected seat assemblies could fail in the event of a vehicular collision.
The Villa seats affected by the recall were fabricated and delivered to Newmar Corporation from April
19, 2022 through July 19, 2022. These seats were installed in Newmar, Dutch Star, Mountain Aire,
London Aire, and Essex.
The Repair
Inspection of the seats in the vehicles listed above is necessary in order to identify if a repair is
required on Villa driver and passenger seats. Attached with this notification is a drawing to help
identify the defective pedestal.
If the vehicle inspection reveals that the pedestal does have the improper weld, then the
pedestal is required to be replaced for that seat.

Manufacturer Responsibility
All the unsold new vehicles in the possession of the manufacturer and subject to this recall must be
inspected as well as repaired according to the Villa repair procedure before dealers or owners can
take possession of the affected vehicle.
Dealers should also receive notification of this recall and are to repair the affected vehicles of this
recall at no charge to the owners regardless of mileage, vehicle age, or ownership from this time
forward.
Owners of the affected vehicles recently sold from a dealer inventory in which the dealer received the
recall notification are to be contacted by the dealer in order to make arrangements for the repair to be
completed.
This will be done by mailing the owner’s notification letter accompanying the dealer and this
notification.
The vehicle owners will also be instructed to contact the Newmar customer service if their dealer does
not complete the repair within seven (7) days of the mutually agreed upon service date. The owners
are also instructed to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration if the repair does not
occur within the reasonable amount of time.
In conclusion, please ensure that the Newmar vehicles affected by this recall in your inventory have
been inspected and properly repaired before selling or releasing the vehicle to dealers or owners.
We at Villa International regret to have caused this inconvenience at this time.
We have taken this action to ensure the safety of your customers and the continued satisfaction of our
seating products.
