Grecale – Steering wheel switch noise

Certain Maserati Grecale (M182) MY23 MY24 listed in MODISCS+ are involved in a Rapid
Update which involves the verification of potential noise from the steering wheel mounted in
the car due to interference from the plastic covering of the steering switch.
In some vehicles, Steering column assemblies may have been installed without the required
gap between the steering wheel vs the "switch cover" (also referred to as the clamshell). This
interference doesn't impact the force required to operate the steering wheel, nor does it affect
or hinder its functionality in any manner. However, it results in a rustling noise that may be
perceived as annoying. The procedure entails a verification check and potential replacement
of the entire steering column.
We remind you that all the Rapid Updates must be performed within the first workshop visit,
regardless of the Mandatory setting set in Modis, as required by Maserati policies.
Also, for vehicles in Stock Dealer / PDI, it is necessary to carry out all action operations before
delivery to the end customer, as required by the White Book and explicitly reported in the Predelivery checklist.

1. Always check ModisCS+ to see if the vehicle is involved in this action and if it has not been
previously performed.
2. First, rotate the steering wheel lock to lock at least 5 times completing the entire turn, both all
the way to the right and to the left to check that there are no excessive sliding noises.
3. Inspect the gap clearance between the steering wheel cover and the column cover as
illustrated in the photos below visually and using a measurement tool (e.g. Digital caliper).

4. INSPECTION RESULTS:
•

OK ► gap is greater than 3.5 mm> the component is OK. No further action is needed.
Release the vehicle.

•

NOT OK ► gap is less than 3.5 mm< or even absent (see above photo). Replace the
Complete Steering Column following the instructions in the workshop manual:
