Models Affected: Specific 2022 and 2023 Freightliner and Western Star vehicles, powered with
DETROITTM Gen 5 DD15 Engines manufactured December 14, 2020, through March 10, 2022

General Information

Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its DETROITTM Powertrain Division, is initiating Field
Service Campaign D23M1 to modify the vehicles mentioned above.
REVSION: Parts disposition is now SCRAP. Please follow normal part return procedures.
Select DETROIT™ Gen 5 DD15® engines installed in certain vehicle applications require replacement of
all six exhaust rocker arms.
Some vehicles have experienced valve bridge failures due to wear from lack of lubrication to the adjusting
screw on the exhaust rocker arm. A new drilled exhaust rocker arm became effective with engines
manufactured in March of 2022. The drilled rocker arm utilizes an oil drilling that feeds oil to the adjusting
screw which reduces the failure mode described above.
There are approximately 17,142 engines affected by this Field Service Campaign.

Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of
a vehicle. Dealers will be liable for any progressive damage that results from their failure to complete
campaigns before sale or delivery of a vehicle. Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that
results from failure to complete campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification. Please
contact Warranty Campaigns for consideration of additional charges prior to performing the repair.

Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing this field service campaign, check
the vehicle for a completion sticker (Form WAR261).

All claims must be submitted within 30 days of the repair and within 30 days of the termination date of the campaign.

Records indicate that your vehicle has one of the eligible engines. Instructions for this Field Service
Campaign have been sent to your local Daimler Truck Authorized Repair Facility, and the labor time required
to perform this campaign is approximately 3.6 hours.
Please contact a Daimler Truck Authorized Repair Facility and arrange to have the Field Service Campaign
performed. To locate an authorized facility, search online at https://demanddetroit.com/find-a-dealer/
You must make an appointment with the repair facility at least two weeks in advance of the actual
repair so the repair facility can order and receive the required parts for the Field Service Campaign.
Failure to provide advance notification to the repair facility may result in a delayed repair.
This service will be completed for you at no charge, prior to October 10, 2024, under the provisions of this
notice.
You may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a
reasonable time after receiving notification.
