REVISION SUMMARY
The INSPECTION PROCEDURE was updated.
SYMPTOM
Some customers may experience the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp) illuminating when rapidly decelerating from a high
vehicle speed.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Fluid aeration can occur in the e-CVT under high-g rapid deceleration.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Do the INSPECTION PROCEDURE; if OK, update the ICM (integrated control module) software.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Connect the i-HDS to the DLC.
2. Do an all DTC check, and verify if DTC P0868 (Transmission Fluid Pressure Low) is stored.
Is DTC P0868 stored?
YES – Go to step 3.
NO – This service bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting.
3. From the All-DTC Check Menu, select the On-Board Snapshot Data (OBS) button.

4. Once the OBS data has loaded, select Line Graph.

5. Select Vehicle Speed.

6. Confirm the vehicle speed drops over 13 MPH in 1 second
Does the vehicle speed drop 13 or more MPH in 1 Second?
YES – Go to step 7.
NO – This service bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting.
7. Do an e-CVT fluid level check; if it’s low, check for leaks.
Is the e-CVT fluid level low or is the e-CVT leaking?
YES – This service bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting.
NO – Go to step 8.
8. Using the i-HDS, do the Shift Solenoid Valve Cover Assembly Inspection.
•

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

•

Do the HDS [Shift Solenoid Test] and test [Shift Solenoid Valve A].

•

Do the HDS [Shift Solenoid Test] and test [Shift Solenoid Valve B].

Did the Shift Solenoid Valve Cover Assembly Inspection test fail?
YES – This service bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting.
NO – Go to the REPAIR PROCEDURE and update the ICM software.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Update the ICM software; see service bulletin 22-100, Updating Control Units/Modules with the Honda ECU
Reprogramming Application.
2. Do an ALL DTC CHECK and clear any codes that may have been set during the update.
NOTE:
• Make sure the 12-volt battery is fully charged before starting an update.
• Connect a fully charged jumper battery pack, the Midtronics GR8-110P AST in Power Supply Mode, or the
Midtronics DCA-8000 Dynamic Diagnostic Charging System in Reflash Mode directly to the vehicle’s 12-volt
battery. Leave it connected during the entire procedure to maintain a steady voltage.
•

If the vehicle’s 12-volt battery drops below 10-volts during the update, the programming status bar may not present
accurately, or the Honda ECU Reprogramming application may display an error message.

•

Control module failure caused by the improper completion of a software update (early key cycle, low battery
voltage, disconnected DLC cable, etc.) is not covered by warranty.

•

If an error occurs during the update or the i-HDS freezes, do not disconnect the battery or turn the ignition to OFF.
Reboot the i-HDS and start over.

•

To prevent control unit damage, do not operate anything electrical (headlights, audio system, brakes, A/C, power
windows, door locks, etc.) during the update.

•

Warranty reimbursement for technician labor is not allowed for routine checking/installation of any available
software update.

•
