Inspection of the starter motor cable for correct routing and retention
Inspect all stock vehicles and vehicles prior to handover presently at the Retailer

Inspect the routing and retention of the starter motor cable on any McLaren Artura currently in Retailer stock or
with an active Workshop visit.

1. Overview
Through continuous product quality monitoring, McLaren Automotive requests all Retailers to immediately
commence inspecting the routing and retention and clearance of the starter motor cable from neighbouring
components. This inspection must be carried out on any McLaren Artura currently in Retailer stock or with an active
Workshop visit.
Retailers are requested to submit photos of the starter motor cable routing as found on inspected vehicles for Quality
analysis.
McLaren Automotive is currently investigating the topic of the routing of this cable. If there are any further actions
required, McLaren Automotive will communicate these in due course.

The below parts are required to complete the inspection and rework. All parts are available to be order in the usual
way via Unidial 2.

3. Procedure
CARE POINT: Take photos of the starter motor cable routing and its condition before and after this procedure and
submit with your Warranty claim.

Step 1
Remove the engine floor panel – Refer to SIS ‘HA-RM-01A004-02-001 - Remove/Install Floor panel - Engine’.
Step 2
CARE POINT: Take care not to damage the starter motor cable and its insulation. Do not use a sharp blade, only side
cutter pliers.

Inspect the fir tree (1) and carry out a pull test.
If the fir tree is fully engaged in the anchor point, holding retention and is not damaged in any way, then no further
action is required.
Take photos and submit with the Warranty claim.
If the fir tree (1) is not holding retention or is damaged, cut it with suitable side cutter pliers and fit a new fir tree
00RL001 in the same position (1).
Take photos of the condition of the fir tree before and after replacing it and submit with the Warranty claim.
Repeat the pull test after fitment of the new fir tree to confirm it stays fully inserted and secure.

Step 3
CARE POINT: Make sure that the edge clip has sufficient retention to the airbox.
Take care not to damage the starter motor cable and its insulation. Do not use a sharp blade, only side cutter pliers.

Inspect the edge cable tie clip (1) retaining the starter motor cable to the air intake manifold shown in the image
below.
Take photos and submit with the Warranty claim.
Carry out a pull test to verify the edge cable clip engages securely.
If the edge clip is not holding retention or damaged, cut it with suitable side cutter pliers and fit a new edge cable tie
clip 00RL022 in the same position (1).
Take photos of the condition of the edge cable clip before and after replacing it and submit with the Warranty claim.
Repeat the pull test after fitment of new edge clip to confirm it stays engaged securely.

Step 4
Care Point: The coolant pipe spring clip must be orientated with the tabs/tangs/arms facing downwards with
sufficient clearance to the coolant pipe.
Care Point: Only adjust the coolant pipe spring clip when the powertrain and coolant are at ambient temperature to
avoid coolant leaking out of the joint.
Care Point: Loosen the coolant pipe spring clip just enough to enable it to rotate.
Care Point: Take care not to create a coolant leak.

Make sure that the spring band clip is orientated as shown in the illustration below. The image shows the orientation
of the coolant pipe spring clip as viewed from underneath looking upwards.
Take photos of the coolant pipe spring clip in the orientation that it was found and submit with the Warranty claim.
If the coolant pipe spring clip requires adjustment, use appropriate tool to slightly loosen it and rotate it so that the
two tangs of the clip are facing down towards the ground and away from the starter motor cable.
Take photos after any adjustment of the coolant pipe spring clip and submit with the Warranty claim.

Step 5
CARE POINT: The new protective rubber sleeve is used to create a mechanical clearance gap between the metal
spring band clip on the cooling pipe and the starter motor cable.
Fit the new protective rubber sleeve 00RA357 (1) around the starter motor cable in the area shown.
The protective rubber sleeve must be fitted in the same orientation as shown below (thicker side facing towards the
coolant pipe) and be fully secure.
Take photos after the protective rubber sleeve fitment and submit with the Warranty claim.

Step 6
Install the components in reverse order.

4. Warranty information
Submit a Warranty claim to the McLaren Warranty department following completion of the work, using the following
details.
Retailers are requested to submit all photos described in this document (before and after inspection/rework) for
Quality analysis. Name each photo file appropriately and attach within the Warranty claim.
