Update of Technical Background & Service Information

Condition
The customer states that the check engine light illuminates in the instrument cluster.
The workshop finds one or some of the following fault codes stored in the DME:
•
DME P05A000 – Cooling-air flap servo motor, top center – mechanical fault (009D46)
•
DME P05A000 – Cooling-air flap servo motor, top center – blocked (009D47)
•
DME P05A300 – Cooling-air flap servo motor, top center – signal implausible (005D93)

Technical Background
It is possible for excess dirt or ice to mechanically block the radiator shutters or the radiator shutter motor.

Service Information
1.

Check for dirt or contamination at the friction points or the bearings for the motor and clean as needed.

2.

Manually check for excess tension in the radiator shutters and the motor for the radiator shutters.

3.
Delete the fault code(s) and operate the radiator shutters via the PIWIS Tester:
DME => Drive links/checks => Drive links => Activation of cooling-air flaps, upper coolant radiator

a.
If the fault does not return, no further diagnosis is necessary.

b.
If the fault returns, please replace the motor for the front radiator shutters as instructed in WM

193219 – Removing and installing motor for cooling-air flaps
