Situation:

JLR Engineering investigations have found that the engine cooling fan may intermittently fail to operate,

causing a potential engine-overheat condition. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0480-13 will be stored in

the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Action:

Follow the instruction(s) below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION:

The latest available engine cooling fan (LR164713) should be ordered through the parts catalogue. Make

sure the part number label has '#ST3' printed on it, this will confirm that the part is at the latest level and

will rectify the customer concern. See the example image attached.

The below symptoms and DTC can be selected from the Fault and Breakdown Symptom Selection

screen on TOPIx, which will then display the associated Test Plan.

Powertrain > Engine > Cooling System > Overheating

Electrical > Climate Control System > Front Climate Control > Inoperative

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0480-13

If the required part is on back-order then in the mean time, advise the customer that the ignition must be

switched ON within 15 seconds of the driver’s door being unlocked and opened, in every instance, to

prevent symptoms from becoming present.

If the above symptoms are already present, then the below steps must be completed in order to

temporarily rectify the concern.
1. Turn the engine and ignition OFF

2. Lock the vehicle.

3. Wait for a minimum of 7 minutes.

4. Unlock the vehicle, open the driver’s door and turn the ignition ON within 15 seconds.
