Summary
CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN: OWNER NOTIFICATION - This document is the owner notification advising that Kia
has developed a software upgrade that can be installed on the vehicle to restrict the operation of the vehicle's ignition system should a locked vehicle be the subject of a break-in and theft attempt without the key. Kia has since learned that some vehicles fall within a group of 2018-2021 MY Kia Rios that did not have the correct version of the software installed, and the software that was installed in the vehicle does not restrict operation of the vehicle as intended. We have corrected this issue and encourage customers to schedule an appointment with their local Kia dealer to install the corrected software as soon as possible. This software upgrade will be available to the customer free of charge for eighteen (18) months from the date of the original letter. When the software upgrade is complete, Kia will also provide the customer with window stickers that can be applied to the vehicle to discourage a break-in.

Dear Kia Rio Vehicle Owner:
As we previously notified you, Kia developed a software upgrade to provide enhanced vehicle security. The upgrade
protects against the method of theft that has been popularized on social media by restricting the operation of your vehicle’s
ignition system should someone attempt to break-in and steal your locked vehicle without the key. Our records show that
you received this upgrade for your vehicle, and we want to thank you for your quick action to help combat this type of
criminal activity.
Kia has since learned that your vehicle falls within a group of 2018-2021 MY Kia Rios that did not have the correct version of
the software installed, and the software that was installed in your vehicle does not restrict operation of the vehicle as
intended. We have corrected this issue and encourage you to schedule an appointment with your local Kia dealer to install
the corrected software as soon as possible. It is important to note that the vast majority of software upgrades that have
been installed on hundreds of thousands of other Kia model vehicles are effective. Your vehicle is one of the few model-year
vehicles for which we have identified an issue.
This software upgrade will be available to you free of charge for eighteen (18) months from the date of this letter. When you
complete the software upgrade, we will also provide you with window decals that can be applied to your vehicle to discourage
a break-in.
What Should You Do?
Please contact your authorized Kia dealer to arrange for the correct software upgrade to be installed on your vehicle BEFORE
MAY 1, 2025 AS THIS IS A LIMITED TIME OFFER. As mentioned above, this upgrade will be performed at no cost to you.
The estimated time required to perform the upgrade will be approximately one (1) to two (2) hours, however, depending upon
shop scheduling, your vehicle may be needed longer. We recommend scheduling a service appointment to minimize any
inconvenience.
Most dealers provide online service scheduling. To find your nearest dealer, visit www.kia.com and click the “Find Dealer”
button in the upper right corner (“Dealers” on a mobile device). You can also use the QR code below with your mobile device
to access this information (see the bottom of this letter for more information about QR code use):
Kia has also developed a web portal that will provide you with the status of your vehicle’s software upgrade when you input
your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number should you need it in the future:

To help prevent vehicle theft, remember to park in well-lit areas or near security cameras, close all windows, and always lock
your vehicle every time you walk away from it. Do not leave your keys/fob or valuables in your vehicle, and do not leave the
immediate area while your vehicle is running.
