SS750 Odometer Disable in Split Shaft PTO Mode

Applicable Vehicles

Western Star X-Series Product with Allison transmissions with fifth and sixth generation
transmission control modules (TCMs)

Symptoms

Vehicle collects miles while sitting stationary in PTO mode

Issue

Western Star X-Series trucks do not have factory enabled Split Shaft features allowing the vehicle
to collect miles while sitting stationary in PTO mode

Solution

Prerequisites

The following features must be installed on the vehicle prior to using these instructions. If they
were not ordered with the vehicle, they can be requested through the Tech Mod Request process or
created using aftermarket components.

General Design

This design allows normal operation of the Speedometer and Odometer when the vehicle is driving. The relay installed in
the OSS circuit will switch from the Output-shaft Speed Sensor to a Resistor that simulates Zero vehicle speed when the
transmission is in Pump Mode.

Operation
If installed per these instructions, no operator input is required.

Upfit Instructions
Install Relays, Wiring & Resistor as shown in Figure 1.

All Numbered circuits shown in the following diagram are included in truck wiring if the 48H PTIC Connector was ordered
with the truck. All other circuits, relays, & resistor are to be completed in Service.

Relay operation will be controlled by safety interlocks determined by the Truck Equipment Manufacturer that is
installing the Split-Shaft PTO Engagement Controls. At a minimum, DTNA recommends using a signal that confirms the
Park Brake is engaged.

These wiring modifications can be completed on the Frontwall near the Allison TCM. Disconnect the battery
before removing the VPDM mounting bolts to access the TCM.

The 48H Powertrain interface connector will be on the drivers side at the Back of Cab or Between the Seats as
it was ordered on the truck.

Pump Mode and Direct Drive must both be active before the OSS signal is removed or the transmission will
lock into the current gear and register fault codes.

PTO Mode in the Detroit Engine must be activated after 4" Gear lockup
