Dear Altec Owner,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Canada
Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Altec Industries, Inc. has received notification from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) that a condition
exists relating to motor vehicle safety, compliance, or emissions in a vehicle you possess that is equipped with
Altec equipment.
Refer to the attached documentation that follows this letter. If you have additional questions, please contact your
Altec Account Manager. You may also contact the OEM using the contact information provided in the attached
recall notice.
For US owners: after contacting the OEM according to the attached notice, if you are still not able to have the
safety condition remedied within a reasonable time, you may write to: Administrator, National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20590 or call 1-888-327-4236 (TTY:
1-800-424-9153) or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
If you had this repair performed before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for
the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.
If you have sold or retired the unit, update the records through Altec Connect. If you have leased this equipment
to another person or company, you are required by Federal Law to forward a copy of this notice to the lessee by
first class mail within ten (10) days of the receipt of this notice.

environment. Therefore, we are voluntarily recalling your vehicle, with the VIN shown above. Your
vehicle may be equipped with an improperly functioning onboard diagnostics (OBD) system that is not
meeting regulatory requirements and is equipped with a powertrain calibration that eventually can
lead to tailpipe emissions that exceed the standard.
What is the issue?

On your vehicle, the (OBD) system may improperly identify a fault in a
vehicle emission monitor and may improperly illuminate the Malfunction
Indicator Light (MIL) on the instrument panel. Additionally, the engine
calibration may result in a lower-than-expected torque at certain engine
speeds. Separately, the Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) sensor preheat is not
functional in the powertrain calibration. Under certain conditions, this can
lead to thermal shock and sudden failure of the NOx sensor.

What is the effect?

The MIL on your instrument panel may illuminate when there is no fault in a
vehicle emission monitor, and there may be delays in detecting faults in that
monitor. Additionally, at certain engine speeds, there may be a reduction in
maximum torque and potentially higher tailpipe emissions. A NOx sensor
failure will result in the illumination of the MIL and potentially higher tailpipe
emissions.

What will Ford and
your dealer do?

Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to reprogram the
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Transmission Control Module (TCM)
free of charge (parts and labor). The new calibration includes a software
update that improves the accuracy of the OBD system, to ensure certain
monitors occur when they should, as required by regulation. The update also
enables the NOx sensor to preheat.
You are eligible for this free service even if you previously used non-Ford
parts to service your vehicle or had your vehicle serviced at a non-Ford
dealer.

lCual es el
problema?

El sistema O8D de su vehiculo podria identificar, incorrectamente, una falla
en un monitor de emisiones del vehiculo y podria encender la luz indicadora
de mal funcionamiento (MIL) en el panel de instrumentos. Adicionalmente,
la calibracion del motor podria generar una torsion inferior a lo esperado a
determinados regimenes del motor. Por separado, el precalentamiento del
sensor de oxidos de nitrogeno (NOx) no esta funcionando en la calibracion
del tren motriz. En determinadas condiciones, esto podria generar un
choque termico y una falla repentina del sensor NOx.

lCual es el efecto?

La MIL en el panel de instrumentos podria encenderse cuando no hay una
falla en un monitor de emisiones del vehiculo y podria haber retrasos en la
deteccion de fallas en dicho monitor. Adicionalmente, a determinados
regimenes del motor, podria haber una reduccion en la torsion minima y
posiblemente mayores emisiones en el tubo de cola. Una falla en un sensor
NOx provocara el encendido de la MIL y, posiblemente, emisiones mas
altas en el tubo de escape.

lQue medidas
adoptaran Ford y su
distribuidor?

Ford Motor Company ha autorizado a su distribuidor a reprogramar el
m6dulo de control del tren motriz (PCM) y el m6dulo de control de la
transmision (TCM) sin costo alguno (piezas y mano de obra).
