1.0 – Introduction
If a non-current VAS diagnostic device with Windows® XP and VAS-PC is retained to service vehicles
no longer under warranty, use these instructions to reinstall VAS-PC if necessary.
Notes:
As of August 30, 2013, VAS diagnostic devices with VAS-PC are no longer supported by
Volkswagen AG and Volkswagen Group of America! As a result:
• Use of VAS-PC is entirely at the user’s discretion, without support.
• Reports or feedback on VAS-PC functional issues are not processed.
• DO NOT attempt to install VAS-PC on a VAS diagnostic device with Windows 7.
• The Base and Brand discs specified below are no longer available for replacement ordering.
These instructions are a condensed version of those originally published. However, important prerequisites
still apply. Be sure to read, understand and heed all Prerequisite and Note callouts.

2.0 – Preparation
Media Required for Reinstallation:




VAS-PC Base CD V19.01.01
VW Brand DVD V19.23.00

Eligible Devices:





VAS 5051B
VAS 5052A
VAS 6150

Prerequisites:





Device plugged in to power adapter and booted to Windows desktop.
Ethernet (cabled) or wireless network connection disconnected from device as applicable.
VAS-PC and Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service (ODIS Service) uninstalled.

3.0 – Install & Configure Base Software
3.1 - Installation
1. Insert Base CD V19.01.01 into the CD/DVD drive. The disc should autorun.
2. From the VAS-PC Installation Suite, select INSTALL.
3. Select Accept to accept the conditions of the agreement and continue with the installation.

4. Select START to begin the installation.
5. When the installation is complete, select FINISH, and then select EXIT to close the installation suite.
6. Remove Base CD from the CD/DVD drive.

3.2 – Configuration
1. From the Windows desktop, locate and double-click the VAS-PC icon.
After the Consistency Test is complete, a shutdown message OR a shutdown prompt is displayed.




If a shutdown message is displayed, the device shuts down and restarts automatically.
If a shutdown prompt is displayed, select OK and then wait a moment until all windows close.
Then Restart the device (Start > Shut down/Turn off > Restart).

2. From the Windows desktop, locate and double-click the VAS-PC icon.
3. If the message “VAS 5054A is not installed correctly…” is displayed, select OK.
4. From the VAS-PC Main / Start screen, select Administration.
5. From the Administration menu, select Enter workshop code.
7. Using the virtual keypad, enter the Importer number, and then select Q.




For the US market, enter Importer Number 444.

For the CDN market, enter Importer Number 999.
8. Using the virtual keypad, enter the last 5 numbers of the Dealership Number, and then select Q.
9. After confirming the input, select OK to proceed. Selecting Cancel will allow re-entry of the Importer
Number and Dealership Number.
10. Using the virtual keyboard or device keyboard, enter the Dealership Identifier. The Dealership
identifier is typically the name of the dealership. Select Q twice to confirm entry. This entry can be
changed at any time via the Administration menu.
11. Select the Go to button from the footer toolbar and select Exit to return to the VAS-PC main/start
screen.
12. Shut down VAS-PC.

4.0 – Install VW Brand Software
1. From the Windows desktop, locate and double-click the VAS-PC icon.
2. If the message “VAS 5054A is not installed correctly” is displayed, select OK.
3. Insert VW Brand DVD V19.23.00 into the CD/DVD drive.
4. From the VAS-PC Main / Start screen, select Administration.
5. Select Install/Update CD
6. After a short delay, an update confirmation is displayed. Select OK to continue.
7. Wait while the contents of the Brand DVD are installed.
8. When finished, the VAS-PC Main / Start screen is displayed. A symbol in the upper right of the screen
shows which Brand data was installed.
9. Remove the Brand DVD from the CD/DVD drive.
10. Close VAS-PC.

5.0 – Verify & Enable VAS 5054A Transmitter Head

The following information applies to VAS 5052A diagnostic tablets and VAS 6150 diagnostic
laptops ONLY.
The wireless configuration of the transmitter head currently matched to the diagnostic device is
retained by the Windows Bluetooth and VCI-Manager applications. The transmitter head need
only to be enabled and its function confirmed after Base software etc. reinstallation.
The VAS 5054A transmitter head that is currently configured to the device must be on hand.

1. Note the complete VAS 5054A Serial Number (S#:) from label on transmitter head, and record in the
space provided:

2. Close VAS-PC if running.
3. VAS 6150: Ensure the wireless operation switch is turned ON:

4. Connect a battery maintainer/charger to a vehicle as per the manufacturer’s directions.

5. Connect the VAS 5054A to the vehicle Data Link Connector (DLC) and switch the ignition on.
6. From the Windows desktop, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.
7. Select Bluetooth Devices from the menu. Verify that the VAS 5054A and its serial number recorded in
Step 1 is listed in the All other devices display. Select OK.

8. VAS 5052A: Skip to Step 13.
9. Select the Hardware tab.
10. From the Hardware tab display, right click – select device name Matsushita Bluetooth Controller,
and click on Properties.

11. If the Power Management tab is present, select it. If this tab is not present, close the dialog window
and skip to Step 13.
12. From the Power Management window, ensure that Allow the computer to turn off this device to
save power is deselected. Select OK.

13. Close the Control Panel window.
14. From the Windows desktop, start the VCI-Manager application.
15. Verify that the VAS 5054A noted in Step 1 is listed in the Selection list for interface window:
Note: If more than one interface is listed in the selection list, ensure that the interface noted in Step 1
appears listed with a checkmark ( ) as being Active. If a checkmark does not appear, check the
VAS 5054A entry manually before enabling.

16. Right click – select (blue highlight) the previously configured 5054A in the selection list. Then click
Update to enable the transmitter head. Click End to close the VCI-Manager interface.

17. From the Windows desktop, start the VAS-PC application.
18. Launch Vehicle Self Diagnosis or other VAS-PC function and ensure device-to-vehicle
communication, for example: Check DTC Memory.
19. Close the VAS-PC function and return to the VAS-PC Main / Start screen.
