INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Remove the old brakes
CAUTION
Remove the wheel and hub-drum from the spindle, leaving the brake

exposed. Check armature surface and drum braking surface.

Check armature surface and drum braking surface. If the braking

surface is worn, the drum needs to be completely replaced.
4.
Disconnect the Tow Assist

harness magnet connector and

ABS sensor connector. Secure

harness ends out of the way for

installation of the new brake.
5.
Remove the brake mounting

hardware. Then remove the old

complete brake assembly.

Spin drum to ensure there are no obstructions making contact with

the wheel speed sensor located at the bottom of the brake.

Lower trailer and plug into the tow vehicle. Startup the Tow Assist

system following the Tow Assist Owners Manual instructions.
6.
Confirm that the indicator light is only green before operating the

unit. If amber light is on, check sensor and magnet connections. If

the problem persists, refer to the Tow Assist Owners Manual.
7.
After replacement of brakes, the brakes must be re-burnished to

seat the new components, referring to Dexter’s current service

manuals for proper procedure.

Jack up trailer and secure on adequate capacity jack stands. Follow

trailer manufacturer’s recommendations for lifting and supporting

the unit.
2.
Remount the drum and wheel. Refer to Dexter’s current service

manuals for proper bearing adjustment procedure.

Do not lift or support the trailer on any part of the axle or

suspension system. Never go under any trailer unless it is

properly supported on jack stands which have been rated for

the load. Improperly supported vehicles can fall unexpectedly

and cause serious injury or death.
