1.0 – Introduction
This document describes the ODIS Service Update Version 1.2.0 DVD installation procedure.
Extremely important, device-specific information must be noted, and prerequisites fulfilled prior to
proceeding!
We recommend printing these instructions.

ATTENTION!


On VAS 5051B, VAS 6150/X and VAS 6160/-VPC devices with existing version 1.1.2 or 1.1.3, the
version 1.2.0 DVD is used to update the existing data. Uninstallation, reinstallation and
configuration are not necessary on these devices with these software versions.



On all VAS 5052A devices, and all devices with obsolete software versions 1.0.9 or V1.1.1, the
version 1.2.0 DVD must be used to perform a complete reinstallation of ODIS Service! Failure to
perform a complete reinstallation on VAS 5052A results in error messages on application startup.

Notes:
 This update should be performed by the dealership ODIS Service Administrator or IT
Professional, or personnel qualified to perform software installations.
 Perform all instruction steps in the exact order given. Heed all Prerequisites and Notes!
 Perform the update in an area that is quiet, clean, and without distraction or interruption.
 Total installation time depends on the type of device and CD/DVD drive condition. Allow at least one
hour for laptops and 1.5+ hours for VAS 5051B and VAS 6160/-VPC.

We encourage installers to FIRST read this document in its entirety to become familiar
with the step-by-step processes and prepare accordingly.

2.0 – What’s New
 Version 1.2.0 contains many new and improved features. These include online update capabilities,
diagnostic content version parity with VAS-PC (when updated), and contents for Hybrid models.

 Version 1.2.0 can be also used to perform installations on devices where ODIS Service was not
previously installed or complete reinstallations on existing devices.

3.2 – Determine Currently-Installed Version (5051B, 6150/X & 6160/-VPC only)
1. From the Windows desktop, locate and click the DiagStarter…. Icon:

2. Select Offboard Diagnostic Information System:

3. Wait while the program starts.
4. If the ODS9004E Infrastructure - Mirror Server2 error message appears, click OK.
5. If the PostSetup - Configuration data input window appears, click Cancel.
6. From the ODIS Service Welcome screen header, note the installed version number and proceed as
per the applicable options listed below:

 V1.0.9 or V1.1.1: Perform complete reinstallation. Ref. Section 5.0 – Page 10.
 V1.1.2 or V1.1.3: Perform update. Ref. Section 4.0 – Page 3.

4.0 – Update
Prerequisites:





Update installation type confirmed as per Section 3.1




Diagnostic device booted to Windows® desktop.



All partially completed and saved diagnostic sessions finalized, and all saved logs transmitted.

ODIS Service Version 1.2.0 DVD - Order No. 006.5002.02.21 on hand.
Diagnostic device must have a functioning CD/DVD drive and USB, and is plugged in to 115V
power adapter.
VAS 6160/-VPC tablets: Must be parked in base station (port replicator). We also recommend
connecting a USB mouse and keyboard for easier input.

4.1 - Determine CD/DVD Drive Letter Assignment
The procedures that follow require manual entry of the CD/DVD drive letter. As drive letter assignments
may not be consistent between devices, please note and record the existing drive letter as follows:
1. From the Windows desktop, click My Computer:

2. Note the letter assigned to the diagnostic device’s functioning CD/DVD drive: Note that the
illustration below is an example only. The drive letter assigned on your device may be different!

4.2 – Update Procedure
1. Insert DVD into the CD/DVD drive.
2. From the Windows desktop, click the DiagStarter icon.
3. Select Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service.
4. From the ODIS Service main screen, select the Admin operating mode:

6. Delete the existing Mirror Server URL by backspacing out all characters in the field as illustrated:

7. Manually type in the update target directory for the CD/DVD drive as per the drive letter
assignment noted on Page 3.
Example (only): file:/E:/update. Then click Save / Yes:

Note:
The update target directory entered above must include the device’s CD/DVD drive letter assignment
previously noted. Also heed the placement of colons and slashes. Examples: file:/D:/update or
file:/E:/update
or
file:/F:/update …etc., as applicable to your device(s).

8. From the Operating modes section, expand the Extras category and select Update:

9. Click Yes:

The ODIS Service application will automatically shut down and restart. On restart, the update target
manually entered in Step 7 is read and a System Updater window is displayed.
10. Click the blue forward arrow button:

11. Wait while the data installation takes place.

Note: The Progress indicator window may appear to stall or lock at times during the data
installation. The application will also shut down, restart and continue the installation. This is normal.
Please be patient!

Service Information
When the update installation is complete, ODIS Service will automatically shut down and restart.
Notes:
An additional update prompt (illustrated below) may or may not appear.
12. If an additional update prompt appears, click the blue forward arrow button: If the prompt does not
appear, skip to Step 14:

13. Click the blue forward arrow button again: Note that installation of the additional update is very
brief.

14. Click Cancel: Note that this login prompt does not apply to the US/CDN market. DO NOT enter
any login information!

15. From the ODIS Service Welcome screen, select the Admin operating mode:

16. Select the Connections tab and Mirror Server 2 configuration category: Click Reset:

The Mirror Server2 URL is read from the license file and automatically reset.

17. Confirm the Mirror Server URL now appears as: https://mirrorserver2.vwhub.com/dav/

18. Eject the DVD (and USB flash drive if applicable), and store in a safe place.

5.0 – Complete Reinstallation
Note:
The following instructions apply only to VAS 5052A and all other devices with obsolete versions 1.0.9
and V1.1.1 installed!
Prerequisites:

 Complete reinstallation installation type confirmed as per Section 3.1.
 ODIS Service V1.2.0 DVD - Order No. 006.5002.02.21 on hand.
 Logon to ServiceNet and print a copy of Service Information – ODIS Service document title:
ODIS Service Installation Phase 2 – Software Installation & Configuration Instructions

5.1 – Uninstall / Reinstall ODIS Service
1. From the Windows desktop, go to Start > Programs/All Programs > Offboard Diagnostic
Information System Service > Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service uninstallation
program. When the confirmation prompt appears, click Next.
Optional: From the Windows desktop, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove
Programs. Select Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service from the program list, and click
on Change/Remove. When the confirmation prompt appears, click Next.
2. When prompted, delete all existing data by placing a checkmark next to all selections as illustrated
below, then click Next:

3. Click Finish:
