Job Aid – Wiring Service Number
Before selecting a Service Number for a wiring repair claim, review the Service Numbers
below:
 9752 - Engine Wiring Harness – If a repair is performed to the engine wiring harness, such as a
repair to a fuel injector, ignition coil, or another component mounted onto the engine, use the
Service Number 9752 – Engine Wiring Harness. A customer complaint involving illumination of the
Check Engine Light resulting from a wiring problem is most often located in the Engine Wiring
Harness.
 9774 - Instrument Panel Wiring Harness – If a repair is performed to any of the wiring in or
behind the vehicle dashboard or instrument panel, the Service Number 9774 – Instrument Panel
Wiring Harness can be used to better reflect the area of concern.
 9766 - Airbag Wiring Harness – When a wiring repair is performed for a customer complaint of
Airbag Light Illumination, it is most often the result of an issue with wiring that is part of the airbag
system. There are several different airbags in Volkswagen vehicles such as curtain airbags,
passenger front airbags, and door airbags. A concern of Airbag Light Illumination resulting from a
wiring concern should be assigned the Service Number 9766 – Airbag Wiring Harness.
 9798 - Ground Connection – In some cases, a loose or corroded ground connection is the root
cause of a customer complaint. If this is what has occurred, choose the Service Number 9798 –
Ground Connection, to better identify the type of repair that was performed.
 9713 - Engine Compartment Wiring Harness – Use Service Number 9713 – Engine
Compartment Wiring Harness when a repair is performed to a portion of wiring that is in the engine
compartment (under hood area), but isn’t connected to the engine or its components. An example
of this type of claim would be a repair to the Washer Fluid Pump wiring. This part is located under
the hood (in the engine compartment), but isn’t connected to the actual engine.
 9757 - Electric Adjustable Seat Wiring Harness – If a customer complaint of a malfunction of
any feature of the electric adjustable seat is caused by a problem with wiring, it is most likely the
result of a problem with the electric adjustable seat wiring. Use the Service Number 9757 – Electric
Adjustable Seat Wiring Harness for this type of repair.

Note: Service Number 9709 – Central Wiring Harness is not a “catchall” but a Service Number specific
to the Wiring Harness itself.

Warranty Information
Wiring Claim Documentation Checklist
Thorough and accurate claim comments are critical to any warranty claim, not only to ensure speedy claim
processing, but also to provide Volkswagen engineers with the information necessary to implement
measures to improve vehicle quality. It is important, therefore, to always include the following information
in your claim comments:
 Specify the Customer Complaint in every claim, whether wiring or otherwise.
 Clearly identify the location of the wire(s) that was repaired or replaced; whenever possible, specify
which component(s) the wire(s) is connected to.
Example: “Repaired the green and white colored CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) circuit
approximately 6” from the CTS connector. The affected circuit was chafed in the damaged area.”
 If a repair is performed to a connector and/or terminal, identify the specific connector and/or
terminal number. Refer to ElsaWeb for specific connector/terminal number information.
Example: “Repaired connector T16b. The terminal T16b/9 on the harness side had insufficient
tension when checked. The terminal was replaced.”
 If a section of one or more wires is repaired using the VAS 1978 Wiring Repair Kit, specify between
which 2 connectors and terminals that the wiring repair was performed. Also specify the color of
each wire that was repaired.
Example: “The yellow and blue signal circuit for the N80 Purge Valve between the N80 and the
ECM was repaired approximately 2” from the ECM connector. The circuit was open and was
repaired with a butt connector from the VAS 1978 kit.”
Work with the Technician(s) to ensure that thorough and complete notes are provided for claim comments
to allow wiring claims to be processed quickly.
