This Service Bulletin is to provide the correct process to remove holograms in vehicle paintwork.
If a vehicle has holograms in the vehicle paintwork, do the workshop procedure that follows.

Workshop Procedure
WARNING: USE APPLICABLE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE) WHEN YOU USE POLISH AND
CLEANING EQUIPMENT. IF YOU DO NOT THERE IS A RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE A MACHINE POLISHER ON SATIN PAINTED VEHICLES. THIS WILL DAMAGE THE
SATIN FINISH OF THE PAINTWORK, AND SUCH A REPAIR WILL NOT BE COVERED BY THE VEHICLE
WARRANTY.

Note: Make sure the vehicle is clean and free of dirt before you start this procedure.
Materials and Equipment
• Machine Polisher
• 3M 320 Finesse-it™ PN52057 Polish
• Waffle-Type Polishing Pads:
• 3M Charcoal PN65880
• 3M Yellow PN50488
• 3M Microfibre Cloth
• Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) Wipe: 70/30 (IPA/Water)

1. Make sure the machine polisher is set to operate
at a low speed setting (refer to Figure 1).
CAUTION: A HIGH SPEED SETTING CAN
CAUSE EXCESS VIBRATION AND POTENTIAL
DAMAGE TO THE PAINTWORK.

2. Install a charcoal polishing pad to the machine polisher.
3. Apply four small drops of 3M 320 Finesse-it™
PN52057 polish to the charcoal polishing pad
(refer to Figure 2).
Note: Always use a clean polishing pad.
Note: If the polish dries out, or the polishing
pad becomes clogged, use a mist of water
spray to clean the polishing pad.
Note: If the pad becomes saturated / cloudy
with polish or the panel must be wiped too
much, too much polish has been applied.

4. Complete two passes with a machine polisher
with the charcoal polishing pad in a cross hatch
pattern (refer to Figure 3).
With each pass, make sure there is 50% overlap
of the previous pass.
Use reduced pressure for the second pass.
CAUTION: PLACE THE ELECTRICAL CABLE
FOR THE MACHINE POLISHER OVER YOUR
SHOULDER. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT THAT
CABLE FROM CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE
PAINTWORK.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE DOORS, FUEL FLAP
AND BOOT ARE FULLY CLOSED, THIS WILL
AVOID THE CHANCE OF A RUB THROUGH OR
DAMAGE.
Note: Make sure the polishing pad is in contact
with the panel before you operate the machine
polisher.

5.

Use a microfibre cloth to wipe the panels in the
same pattern the polish was applied (refer to
Figure 4).

6.

Replace the charcoal polishing pad with a yellow polishing pad on the machine polisher.

Apply four small drops of polish to the yellow
waffle pad (refer to Figure 5).
Note: Always use a clean polishing pad.
Note: If the polish dries out, or the polishing
pad becomes clogged, use a mist of water
spray to clean the polishing pad.
Note: If the pad becomes saturated / cloudy
with polish or the panel must be wiped too
much, too much polish has been applied.

8.

Start the polish process with slightly reduced
pressure from previous (charcoal pad) pass.
With each pass, make sure there is 50% overlap
of the previous pass.
Each cycle the pressure applied is reduced, until
the final pass you "barely touch" the panel, use a
cross hatch process (refer to Figure 6).
CAUTION: PLACE THE ELECTRICAL CABLE
FOR THE MACHINE POLISHER OVER YOUR
SHOULDER. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT THAT
CABLE FROM CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE
PAINTWORK.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE DOORS, FUEL FLAP
AND BOOT ARE FULLY CLOSED, THIS WILL
AVOID THE CHANCE OF A RUB THROUGH OR
DAMAGE.

Use a microfibre cloth to wipe the panels in the
same pattern the polish was applied (refer to
Figure 7).

10.

When you have completed the polish process,
wipe down the panel with an IPA wipe to remove
any polish that remains (refer to Figure 8).
Note: Remove any excess IPA with a microfibre
cloth.

11.

Inspect the vehicle using a suitable sun lamp to
make sure the holograms have been removed
(refer to Figure 9).
