Retrofit SRS Control Module Reinforcement Plate/Protective Bracket

Recall Campaign Bulletin

Daimler AG (“DAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter Vans, has
determined that in certain Sprinter vehicles, the reinforcement plate/protective bracket was not installed
to the airbag control module. This component is designed to protect the airbag control module in the
event of a frontal crash and to ensure it remains operative after that crash. Without the reinforcement
plate/protective bracket the airbag control module could be damaged and may not remain functional after
a crash. An authorized Mercedes-Benz or Freightliner Sprinter dealer will install the reinforcement
plate/protective bracket on affected vehicles.

Prior to performing this Recall Campaign:

e Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been
previously repaired.
Please review the entire Recall Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.

Please note that Recall Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a
vehicle status indicator.

Procedure

1. 3kremove SRS control module; refer to
WIS: AR91.60-D-0615A

Note: (regarding referenced WIS
document): It is not necessary to remove
door sill trim.

2 Pketrofit SRS control module
reinforcement plate/protective bracket (3,
Figure 1): Align reinforcement
plate/protective bracket (3) with threaded
mounting bores of SRS control module (2) at
control module's installed position.

e Inorder to gain access to covered SRS control module mounting bolt (arrow, Figure 2) cut cable ties (A)
and remove from them their mounting clips, then lift up interior harness (B)

« Be sure to reposition interior harness (B) back to its’ original position and secure to existing cable tie
mounting clips with new cable ties.

3: Pheeinstall SRS control module (2, Figure 1) on top of reinforcement plate/protective bracket (3):
Torque mounting bolts (1) to: 10 Nm.

INote:
Check for correct seating of reinforcement plate/protective bracket (3) when installing SRS control
module (2).

4. Reinstall remaining components in reverse order.

Retrofit Blind Spot Monitor System

Recall Campaign Bulletin

Daimler AG (“DAG”), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles, has determined that certain
Mercedes-Benz Metris vans were delivered without an operational passive Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
function, despite being ordered by the customer. Due to a documentation error, the affected vehicles
were fitted with an instrument cluster and steering wheel which do not support the BSM function. The
absence of the BSM function could increase the risk of a crash should the customer attempt to operate
the vehicle with the expectation that the BSM function is operational.

fl Replace steering wheel (1, Figure 1), refer to WIS: AR46.10-S-0100E.
Note:

ES] Install new steering wheel mounting bolt (2) and torque to proper specification.

2. Perform commissioning of instrument cluster (IC) control module (A1/1) using XENTRY Diagnostics:
Control units view "> A1/1 -Instrument cluster (IC) "=> Adaptations = Commissioning "Control
unit replacement with commissioning of new control unit.

Note:
e Use DAS/Xentry 03-04/17 with all associated patches or higher.
¢ Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/Xentry.

¢ Connect battery charger (battery voltage >12.5V).
e Ensure all electrical consumers are switched-off.
¢ Inthe event of software/SCN update issues, contact Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. Please refer to
the “pre-call” check list before contacting UHD
Refer to Star Diagnosis System (SDS) Best Practices Guide.
3. aw Replace instrument cluster (IC) control module (A1/1), refer to WIS: AR54.30-S-6015EE.

Note:
The adjustment shaft extension (5, Figure 1) is retrofitted. To attach the adjustment shaft extension (5) to
the instrument lighting adjustment shaft (6), the cover (3) on the trim (4) must be removed.

4. Perform SCN coding of electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) using XENTRY Diagnostics (refer
to “Note” in step 2 prior to starting SCN coding): Control units view "> N73 -Electronic ignition lock
(EZS) "=> Adaptations "= Control units update "=> Update of SCN coding.

5. Disconnect XENTRY Diagnostics.

6. Perform function test of instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1, Figure 1) and steering wheel (1).
