Tekniker Program Update

Car USA, LLC Technical Training is pleased to announce that the Tekniker Apprenticeship
Program (formerly SAFE) is now managed and recruited for solely by Universal Technical Institute
(UTI). Volvo Car USA and UTI have been partnered together for over twenty years building the careers
of Tekniker Apprentice students through their Avondale, Arizona, campus. The Tekniker Apprenticeship
Program is now utilizing two campuses: the West Coast location in Avondale, AZ, and the East Coast
location at the Southern Region Training ACADEMY at Volvo Car USA in Ridgeville, SC.
The industry driven Tekniker Apprenticeship program provides a career pathway where highly soughtafter technicians can prepare for their future in the workforce. The collaborative partnership with UTI at
both campus locations will help grow the Volvo network.

Tekniker Program Curriculum
While attending either location, Tekniker Apprentices will receive 12-weeks of hands-on InstructorLed Training uniquely designed for program participants. This extended hands-on collaborative and
interactive environment creates learners with an ability to solve real-world challenges once placed at a
Volvo retailer.
In addition to earning Quality Level (G0) Certification, Tekniker Apprentices will also complete three
of six courses outlined within the Certified Level (G1) Path. The following is an overview of this
curriculum and displays the number of days spent on each course.

Tekniker Apprentice Recruiting
Universal Technical Institute has a recruiting team strictly dedicated to placing candidates into program
sessions as well as providing recommendations to delegates and Retailers for hire.
For eligibility into the Tekniker Apprenticeship Program, a recruiter will ensure a potential delegate
has completed a post-secondary automotive program, be within one (1) year of graduating from
said program and have maintained a GPA of 3.5 throughout. Delegates must also meet background
requirements (i.e. pass all driving record expectations, drug screening, and commit to full-time
employment with their hiring retailer).
Once candidates are fully assessed in terms of skills and experience, recruiters at UTI will identify
available positions, analyze job requirements, consider locations, and assist throughout the hiring process.
Hiring retailers will have an opportunity to meet with and interview Tekniker Apprentices prior
to graduation through Open House events. These face-to-face Open Houses will be planned at
each location and take place at approximately the midway point of each 12-week session. Retailer
representatives are strongly encouraged to attend these planned Open Houses at either campus. When
attending these events, retailers should be prepared to present the benefits of working at their facility,
provide presentations for potential students including details about anticipated salary ranges, benefit
packages and incentives. Retailers should outline their mentoring support system within their workshop

and provide details including but not limited to local housing availability, cost of living, and community
services and events. This information is very helpful for Tekniker Apprentices who may be considering
relocation to a new area as they begin their careers as Volvo technicians. In addition to meeting the
graduating class, private interviews can also be arranged for any candidates/retailers who are interested.
Details for future Open Houses may vary by location; therefore, they will be the subject of a future
communication.

Once hired, retailers are required to implement professional development and mentorship programs. We
no longer provide a candidate-warranty; therefore, we strongly encourage each Tekniker Apprentice and
Retailer outline an employment agreement that suits each unique hiring.
Tekniker Program Costs
This 12-week Tekniker Apprenticeship allows candidates to explore their passions and focus while
building practical skills. To ensure apprentices are focused on curriculum, room and board is supplied at
minimal cost for the duration of this 12-week program.
Once a hire date has been set and an apprentice begins employment, Retailers can expect to be recharged
for program costs. Volvo Car USA will invoice a retailer’s parts statement in four equal installments of
$2,450.00, for a total of $9,800.00** (USD).
With a combination of on-the-job training and continued mentoring, newly hired Tekniker Apprentices
can be a significant asset to your service team and workshop. We look forward to working with you all
