Subject: MEDIC/MUT Software Update
To provide a solution that addresses the software issue with the Generation 1, Mark 2, 3 or 4, Panasonic
Toughpad (no issue with Generation 1 Mark 5 or Generation 2), MMNA will be sending a MEDIC/MUT
software update to all dealers that only have one of these platforms. This is a temporary stopgap solution
- these units are nearing the end of their useful life and cannot be supported indefinitely.
Without this software update, performing ECU configuration as required when replacing certain ECUs on
2022-2023 Outlander and 2023 Outlander PHEV cannot be performed on this hardware.
Affected dealers will be sent two thumb drives containing the necessary software to update your system,
along with detailed instructions on how to perform the update. One is a Boot drive (used to set up the
Toughpad for the image installation) and the other is an Image drive.
Please be aware, the software is specific to the Mark version of your Toughpad and one of the thumb
drives will be clearly labeled with the Mark version. The software will cause serious issues if attempting
to update a different Mark version. Please DO NOT load software designed for a specific Mark version
onto a different Mark version.
The software update package will be sent via FedEx to the Service Manager’s attention. It will also contain
a preprinted return label. The two thumb drives MUST be returned to MMNA. Failure to return the
thumb drives within 30 days of receipt will result in a $100 charge to your parts statement.
The model and Mark version of your tablet(s) can be easily viewed in the upper right-hand corner of the
MEDIC ADMIN screen. If your tablet indicates FZG1-5 or FZG2-1, you will NOT need to update the
software, and will NOT receive this update. Nevertheless, if you have an additional MEDIC/MUT that is a
Generation 1, Mark 2, 3 or 4, the update software will be made available to you at a later date.
To minimize any customer inconvenience, please perform the software update as soon as it’s received.
