Repair instructions

Technical background
On vehicles specified with Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) a software update is required, the update should be applied to both RSE tablets

Remedy
All vehicles affected by this campaign require the software of both RSE tablets updating

Customer notification
Keepers of affected vehicles will be notified in writing by their Bentley retailer to arrange an appointment
If it is omitted to perform the work required during a workshop visit, the customer should be notified immediately
You should also pass on this information to your new and used car sales departments so that affected vehicles are checked and repaired
immediately

Please Note: The procedure does not and must not be used in an attempt to rectify any RSE system faults
A fault free and fully functioning RSE system is required before applying this campaign, therefore the system must be tested,
any faults found within the RSE system MUST be rectified before applying this procedure
1) Access the Bentley Hub

New Flying Spur
• Referring to Figure 2 - the applicable zip file can be found in >Aftersales > Diagnostics & Electrical > SDIS_Update_631

2) Extract the Zip file SDIS 631.zip onto the C drive of the applicable PC/laptop (Figure 3)

VERY IMPORTANT: The software update MUST be conducted on both RSE tablets
VERY IMPORTANT: Ensure the RSE tablet battery of both RSE tablets is fully charged before starting the updates

Left hand RSE tablet
3) Complete the following steps to update the left hand RSE tablet
IMPORATANT: Make sure the device is switched off. If not, switch it off by pressing the Power key for more than 15 seconds
4) Referring to Figure 6 - Change the RSE tablet to the bootloader menu as follows:
•

Press and hold the Power key

•

With the power key held, Press the volume down key (-) as frequently as possible

The bootloader menu when evident should be as shown in Figure 7

•

Select “Recovery kernel” in bootloader menu by pressing the Volume (-) down key several times - Confirm your selection by pressing the
Power key

5) Once a green Android robot is shown (Figure 8) the operative should press the following key/key combination depending on your Android
version:
•

1st try - pressing the Power key to display the recovery kernel menu

•

If the above is not successful - Hold the Power key down while pressing the Volume up key shortly to display the recovery kernel menu

•

Navigate to the recovery kernel menu by pressing the Volume down key and confirm your selection by pressing the Power key

•

Select “apply update from ADB.” (Figure 9)

6) Connect the RSE tablet to the PC/laptop via a micro USB cable into the Micro USB port (Figure 6)
IMPORTANT HINT: The following prompts must be performed from the operatives PC/laptop
•

Navigate to the applicable 631 SDIS update file

•

Double click the update file whilst following the commands on the script (Figure 10)

VERY IMPORTANT: Wait until the re-flash has reached 100% before continuing

7) Once the update has reached 100% the Window will request the operative to press another key to continue - Close the window (using ‘X’
button)
8) Once the update is finished, reboot the device (Figure 11)

9) Switch off the device by pressing the Power key for more than 15 seconds
•

Switch the device back on (with the power key) to check for the Android logo - Then switch the device off

10) To prevent high consumption of the RSE tablets batteries, please also ensure the onward instructions are followed on both RSE tablets:
•

Select “Settings” on home screen

•

Select “Location” (Figure 12)
