Condition

Some dealer technicians may experience a condition when after performing a DTC Clear/
Reset on the Transmission Control Module (TCM), the DTCs did not clear or appear to
reset on the next engine start. This could occur during diagnosis or after completion of a
transmission repair or replacement.

Cause

This condition may be caused by performing a repair performed with the ignition in the
“On” position or the TCM was not allowed to go to sleep after the attempted DTC Clear/
Reset.

Perform a DTC Clear/Reset on the TCM.
Note: The ignition may need to be in the “Off” position for a minimum of 10 minutes for
the TCM to properly go to sleep.

⇒ Place the ignition into the “Off” position, remove all key fobs from the vehicle
and lock the doors with the fob. Place the fob at least 10 feet away from the
vehicle and allow the TCM to go to sleep prior to restarting the engine.
