Manual Cylinder Valve Description and Location
PDO.0058 Ver. 2.0 January 12, 2023
Cylinder valves thread into a boss at one end of each compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder. Manual valves
are operated by hand to control the flow of fuel from a cylinder and are either open for system operation or closed
to isolate the cylinder from the rest of the fuel system.
OPEN cylinder manual valves by turning knob fully COUNTERCLOCKWISE; CLOSE by turning knob fully
CLOCKWISE.

Manual cylinder valves may be fitted with integral pressure relief devices (PRDs) connected to non-pressurized
PRD vent lines or be connected to a remote PRD through pressurized live PRD lines.
Lower port(s) are non-pressurized
and connect to PRD vent tubes.

Depending on fuel system configuration, cylinder valves may be equipped with inlets and outlets for highpressure fuel lines and PRD lines.

Some manual valves may be fitted with integral excess flow devices which are designed to guard against sudden
releases of system fuel pressure. Cylinder valves with integrated EFDs appear nearly identical to non-EFD
equipped valves; consult valve OEM for identification details.

small dome (circled) near the handle.
Confirm valves installed are of the proper type for the system by verifying OEM markings and part numbers.
