SUBJECT:

Replace standard grade Motor Inverter fuse

ISSUE:

The ELFA3 standard grade buses have demonstrated nuisance tripping
of the motor inverter fuse.

SUMMARY:

The traction fuse 250A for the ELFA3 standard grade (SG) motor (motor
PN 820570) must be upgraded to 350A.

SAFETY PROCEDURE:
1. Turn the MRS to the off position and wait 5 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
2. Turn the main battery disconnect and HV interlock switch to the “OFF” position.
3. Perform the Lock Out Tag Out procedure.
4. Perform the applicable de-energizing procedure before moving to the next step in this ITS



NOTE: Refer to the Lockout/Tagout Procedure and De-Energizing Procedures in section 9 of the New
Flyer Service Manual.
 NOTE: Use commercially available lock out equipment and tags being sure to follow any local laws
or workplace procedures.

REWORK PROCEDURE:
1. Open the engine door to get access to rear HV fuse box
2. Unscrew the 4 screws holding the front cover and remove the front cover
3. Locate the FUSE – 250A HV DC1700M1760 at the bottom of the rear inverter rack as marked in fig. 2.
4. Use 13 mm socket to remove the bolts of the fuse mentioned above.
5. Replace FUSE 250A with FUSE – 350A HV DC170M1762 as shown below and torqued the new fuse to 15
NM (11 FT-LBS dry).

5. Perform visual check to ensure the fuse box is closed with no debris, tools etc.
6. Reinstall the HV fuse cover.
7. Remove the lockout/tagout from 12/24-volt Battery Disconnect switch and set the switch to the ON
position.
8. Set the Master Run switch to DAY-RUN or NIGHT-RUN position
