Puncture Repair of Bridgestone Brand Tires with
B-Seal Sealant Technology
Bridgestone brand tires with sealant technology may be identified on the sidewall by either
of the following logos:

Even though B-Seal and B-SealS have certain technical differences, the function of the sealant
is the same. For more information, see Product Information Bulletin P-22-04, “Bridgestone
Brand Tires with B-SealS Sealant Technology”.
When driven with low pressure, factors affecting tire reparability include vehicle speed, load,
and maneuvering, the amount of inflation pressure loss, and ambient temperature. The
extent and location of direct damage from a puncturing object or road hazard can also affect
tire reparability.
Tires with B-Seal technology may be repaired for some punctures under certain restrictions
and prescribed procedures detailed below. No tire, regardless of its design or quality is
indestructible. B-Seal tires can be ultimately rendered unusable due to a puncture or other
road hazard as well as from improper low tire pressure operation.
Follow USTMA Procedures — For puncture repair, tires with B-Seal sealant technology
require certain evaluation criteria and procedural steps (see following pages) in addition to
those recommended for other passenger tires. Follow the procedures and recommendations
in this bulletin and those of the United States Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) wall
chart: Puncture Repair Procedures for Passenger and Light Truck Tires. *
A tire could fail while in use if it exhibits external or internal damage condition(s) as noted on
the next page, or if a repair is conducted that is not otherwise within USTMA guidelines. If the
sealant has detached from the interior of the tire, it may not seal future punctures. Such tires
should be replaced.

WARNING

Improperly repaired tires can fail while in service, such as by tread/belt separation, which
can lead to a crash and serious personal injury or death. Conduct a complete inspection of
the tire inside and out, and repair it in accordance with the information in this Technical
Bulletin.

Sealant tires with punctures may still lose pressure after a puncture depending on the type of
damage. Tires operated at low pressure are likely to show signs of run-low/flat damage on
the exterior and/or interior surfaces. The extent of the damage will vary since it depends on
many factors, such as how low the inflation pressure reached and how many miles
(kilometers) the vehicle traveled.
In addition to following inspection criteria described within the USTMA passenger tire
puncture repair procedure, look for the following:
• Exterior: Abrasion or other damage on the tread, sidewall, or bead areas
• Interior: Abrasion, or separation in any area including the sealant material
Additional Evaluation Criteria for B-Seal Tires — In addition to any condition that would
disqualify repair of a conventional tire, a B-Seal tire should not be repaired if the sealant is
blistered, lifting or otherwise detached from the innerliner of the tire. These are indications
that the tire has been operated in an excessively low pressure or runflat condition, damaging
it beyond repair. Such tires should be replaced. Example shown below.

Note: Some vehicle manufacturers do not recommend using repaired tires. Consult the
vehicle owner’s manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer.

Repair procedure for Bridgestone B-Seal tires
After a complete external and internal inspection, including as noted on the previous page,
if the tire is in a reparable condition, follow the USTMA guidelines and procedures as found
in the wall chart: Puncture Repair Procedures for Passenger and Light Truck Tires with the
addition of the following steps:
1. Remove the Bridgestone B-Seal compound in an area large enough to accommodate
cleaning and preparation of the puncture and repair area by pushing the compound
aside (Figure 1) ensuring that the compound will not retract into the repair area. Use a
suitable innerliner cleaner to remove B-Seal residue and any contamination from the
repair area.
2. Continue to follow USTMA repair guidelines for cleaning and preparation of the injury
and repair area, as well as the remaining puncture repair procedures.
3. Note: After the repair unit is installed, B-Seal compound may be repositioned over the
repair area (Figure 2).
