Winnebago Motorhomes is conducting a Field Service Campaign on certain 2022 EKKO models. It has been
determined that the battery jumper cables may be undersized.
Affected Vehicles and Owner Notification
Attached to this letter is a list of subject vehicles which were shipped to your dealership. Customers with affected
vehicles are being sent a letter notifying them of the service campaign. Owners are directed to contact a Winnebago
Motorhome dealer for the service campaign to be performed at no cost to them. A copy of the owner notice is provided
for your information.
Repair Procedure:
Refer to instruction sheet.
Parts Information:
The part order should be placed as a service campaign order. You will need the campaign dealer number and the
Winnebago serial number for the affected vehicle to place the order. Multiple serial numbers may be placed on a
single order.

2022 EKKO Battery Cables
Tools Required:
• 1/2” box end wrench
• 1/4” drill with #2 cross head bit
• Box cutter
• Inch-pound torque wrench

Procedure:
1. At driver side #1 exterior compartment, inspect negative and positive battery jumper cables connecting the
battery terminals. The cables should be at least 2/0 gage. (Figure 1) If cables are 2/0 or larger, no modification is
needed. Otherwise, proceed with repair.

2. Raise coach a minimum of 6” to gain additional clearance.

3. Ensure coach battery is powered off inside coach and that batteries themselves are turned off. The presence of a
blue light on top of the battery indicates the battery is still powered on. Hold the button on the inside of this light to
turn the battery off. (Figure 2)

4. Remove the battery compartment plate from the coach by removing any screws running through the plate into the
coach and cutting through any sealant stuck to the plate. The plate should be able to be pulled downward once
attachment is severed. (Figure 3 & 4)

5. Unbolt wire connections made to the outer battery’s positive and negative posts with 1/2” wrench. Keep track as to
which cables are attached to which terminals as this will remain constant.
6. Unscrew the nut from the carriage bolts holding the batteries in place. Drop the bolts out from the bottom of the
coach, cut away sealant if any is restricting full removal of bolt. (Figure 5)

7. Remove battery strap and outer battery from compartment as needed to gain access to inner battery. Unbolt wire
connections made to inner battery’s negative and positive posts with 1/2” wrench. Keep track as to which cables
are attached to which terminals as this will remain constant. (Figure 6)

8. Replace original smaller gauge negative and/or positive jumper cables with supplied cables. All other electrical
connections should remain the same.
9. Reinstall all removed components, ensuring that they are replaced in the same orientation. Ensure that bolts
attaching to the battery or battery strap are torqued to proper specifications (132 in-lbs). Carriage bolts should be
tightened to where they restrict battery movement, do not overtighten.
10. Reseal any cut sealant areas.
11. Power batteries back on. Turn on coach power and review interior electrical systems to verify all connections at
battery were properly made.

What We Will Do
Your Winnebago dealer will inspect the cables and replace if needed.
What You Should Do
Contact your Winnebago dealer to arrange for a service appointment. Please allow sufficient time for your dealer to
process your vehicle on the date of the appointment. The actual repair will take approximately 1 hour, however your
dealer may require additional time to process your coach.
Important
This campaign and offer to provide service is at NO COST TO YOU and is valid until June 9, 2023, at which time the
campaign will be closed.
