Replacement of the Steering wheel and Control Unit for Steering Wheel Contact Detection (J1158)

VERY IMPORTANT: Before any work is carried out on the vehicle. Refer to "Precautions - Passive restraint systems and
components". Failure to comply with the instructions could lead to inadvertent deployment of the air bag module

1) Referring to Rep.Gr 48 - Remove the steering wheel
Please note the replacement steering wheel is not supplied with multifunction switches (E440 and E441) the switches require transferring
from the original steering wheel to the new steering wheel as per Rep.Gr 96
HINT: Depending on vehicle specification some steering wheels may have extra components which require swapping for example:
•

Harnesses which are secured/located to the steering wheel

2) Referring to Figure 1 - Fit a new Control Unit for Steering Wheel Contact Detection (J1158) to the new steering wheel

3) Conduct a visual check between the original steering wheel and the new steering wheel to confirm all applicable components have been
transferred successfully
NOTE: At the time of publishing the procedure to replace the Steering Wheel Contact Detection (J1158) on New Continental GT/C and New
Flying Spur is not visible within the repair manual

The procedure for Bentayga is visible within the repair manual
4) Referring to Rep.Gr 48 - Fit the new replacement steering wheel ensuring a new steering wheel centre bolt is ALWAYS used
5) Using ODIS - Erase all applicable DTC’s
