Summary
Some customers may complain that there are warning sounds when depressing accelerator pedal while the shifter is in the N (Neutral) position, this is caused by improper control software in the PCM. To correct this issue, the PCM control software has been modified.

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS:
2023 Mazda3 (Japan built w/ cylinder deactivation) with VINS lower than JM1BP**M***605814 (produced before October
27, 2022)
NOTE: To identify vehicles with cylinder deactivation, examine the 8th digit of the VIN.
• L: 2.5L without cylinder deactivation
• M: 2.5L with cylinder deactivation
DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain that there are warning sounds when depressing accelerator pedal while the shifter is in
the N (Neutral) position, this is caused by improper control software in the PCM. To correct this issue, the PCM control
software has been modified.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Reprogram the PCM with the Mazda
Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS), using the Mazda Diagnostic And Repair
Software (MDARS). Refer to MDARS ECU Reprogramming Procedure.
NOTE:
• If current calibration file name in the ECU FILENAME screen is the same as shown in Calibration Files Information
or with later suffix, reprogramming is not necessary.
• After the reprogramming, pending DTC P2610:00 [PCM] may be stored without the CHECK ENGINE light ON. Be
sure to clear DTCs after all repair work is done.
• If DTC U2120:00 or/and U2500:82 are stored and i-ACTIVSENSE warning light (amber) turns on after the
reprogramming, refer to Service Alert SA-043/20.
3. Clear the DTC, turn the ignition off, and get out of the vehicle.
4. Close and lock the door.
5. Wait for at least ten minutes.
6. Verify the repair by starting the engine and confirming there is no check engine light or any abnormal warning lights
present.
