Gradall made a running change to the counterweight mounting hardware. Some units shipped
from the factory may not have had these hardware updates, which could result in loosening of the
hardware. This bulletin will address the visual inspection of the counterweight hardware,
installation of the hardware, as well as how to install the updated hardware, if required.
Affected Units:
Series V 3000 units in the following S/N ranges:

Corrective Action:
Inspect the above units for the correct hardware and installation.
The mounting bolts should be Grade 8. There should be two square washers present, per bolt, as
well as a NORDLOK-style lock washer. The hardware should also be secured with RED Loctite.
The placement of the square washers also needs inspected. If any part of the square washer is
resting on the weld, the bolt will need to be removed so the square washer can be rotated away
from the weld. RED Loctite will need applied to the new bolts, reinstalled, and torqued to 625ft.lbs
+50/-0.
Using a shim (Gradall p/n 80341133) for reference there should not be a gap larger than 1/16”
between the counterweight and frame at the four mounting areas once all the correct hardware
has been confirmed and torqued properly. If a shim can fit between the counterweight mounting
surface and the frame, another shim should be placed at that bolt/area.
If no issues, as described above, are found, no update is required.
If the mounting hardware requires an update, order the following items, and follow the installation
drawings attached to the end of this bulletin:

This image shows the correct Grade 8 bolt (with 6 marks on its head) and the NORDLOKstyle washer on the left-hand side. However, on that same side, the square washer is resting
on the weld, which is incorrect. The right-hand side of the image shows the correct placement
of the square washers, making no contact with the weld.
This scenario requires an update using the mounting hardware kit. The left-hand side bolt
and NORDLOK-style washer need removed. Install a new Grade 8 bolt and NORDLOK-style
washer, add RED Loctite, rotate the square washer(s) so they do not contact the weld, and
torque bolt to spec. Retorque stripe bolt head/square washer for visual inspection.
For the safety of the technician, rework 1 bolt at a time.

This scenario requires an update using the mounting hardware kit. If any broken bolts are found,
they must be removed and replaced with Grade 8 bolts, adding RED Loctite to the threads,
NORDLOK-style washers installed, and two square washers (per bolt) installed. Ensure the
square washers are not resting on the welds, and torque bolt to spec. Retorque stripe bolt
head/square washer for visual inspection.
For the safety of the technician, rework 1 bolt at a time.

Recommended Action:
Please provide this Service Information to your service technicians and customer service
personnel.
GRADALL will reimburse ½ hour for the inspection of the counterweight mounting
hardware, and up to 2 hours travel time for the inspection. GRADALL requires the
completion of the inspection not to exceed 30 calendar days from the release date of this bulletin.
If replacement/installation of any of the hardware is required: Upon receipt of the required parts
and the completion of the work, the GRADALL account holder will be reimbursed for the
parts and up to 2 hours of labor for the completion of the job. Travel time will be permitted
for this as well, up to 2 hours. GRADALL requires the completion of the work not to exceed 30
calendar days from the receipt of the repair parts. Failure to complete the repair within the allotted
timeframe will result in rejection of warranty application.
Only GRADALL Account holders can be directly reimbursed for any claims associated with the
completion of this bulletin. If you have received the Service Bulletin, our records indicate that you
are a GRADALL Distributor that has an account capable of parts purchase and warranty
submission.
When submitting your claim, you must reference Service Bulletin 41200183 on the claim under
the heading “Dealer Comments”. The Claim type must be selected as “Other”. If Claim Type is
not selected correctly, claim processing will be delayed.
