Seat height is an important criteria for our potential customers - especially in the Adventure Motorcycle
segment.
When arranging test rides with prospective customers, please note the following:
• All Tiger 1200 models have semi-active electronic suspension with automatic spring preload for the Rear
Suspension Unit (RSU).
• If the motorcycle is heavily loaded, for example rider, passenger and luggage, the RSU spring preload is
increased until the normal riding level is reached.
Conversely, spring preload is reduced if the motorcycle is only lightly loaded.
• The motorcycle automatically adjusts to the current load (rider, passenger and luggage) after riding a
short distance.
A demonstrator motorcycle that was heavily loaded during a test ride will have an increased spring preload,
which will raise the seat height. On certain models, the difference in seat height may be up to 30 mm (1.2 in)
with a 90 kg rider.
It is therefore important to reset the preload to its lowest setting before the next potential customer rides
the motorcycle.
To do this, switch the ignition on (the fuel pump must prime) and select the OFF-ROAD or OFF-ROAD PRO
riding mode.
If the RSU preload is high, the stepper motor will reduce the preload and the seat height will lower. Once the
RSU adjustment completes, select the desired riding mode. Do not leave the OFF-ROAD or OFF-ROAD PRO
riding modes selected.
Turn the ingnition off.
Warning
Changing the off-road damping settings as described below will store those settings against the off-road
riding modes until they are changed again. If an off-road riding mode is selected, the damping settings
may be incorrect for the rider.
Always set the damping settings correctly for the rider.
Failure to set the damping settings correctly may result in loss of motorcycle control and an accident.
To further lower the seat height, once in the OFF-ROAD or OFF-ROAD PRO riding mode, enter the Damping
Menu and change the damping to the minimum setting (shown as Comfort on the instruments).
This will lower the seat height by an additional amount.
We recommend performing this procedure after every test ride.
If the motorcycle is to be used in OFF-ROAD or OFF-ROAD PRO mode, the damping settings must be
correctly set for the rider.
Additionally, we recommend adjusting the standard seat to the low position. The difference in seat height
between the high and low positions is 20 mm (0.78 in) (using the adjustment bars).
We also recommend having the accessory low seat available to install if needed. The accessory low seat
reduces the seat height by 20 mm (0.78 in).
