SITUATION
BMW Motorrad is aware of a number of cases in which the screw connections of the Paralever link and/or
the rear brake caliper have loosened in customer vehicles while driving. It was determined that the factory
original screw connections had been loosened and aftermarket optional accessories had been installed.

The figures above are some examples, not only with respect to the accessory products and accessory
product manufacturers shown but also with respect to the affected BMW Motorrad models.
The screw connections of the Paralever link and the brake calliper are safety-relevant while driving.
A loss of the rear Paralever screw will significantly impair rear-wheel guide. A completely or partially
loosened brake calliper can lock, fall off or get into the rear wheel. In each of these cases, critical driving
situations cannot be ruled out.
BMW Motorrad has exclusively approved the factory original screw connections and/or model-specific repair
solutions (replacement screws according to ETK and bolting specifications according to repair instructions).
Any change of the approved screw cases (modified/non approved screws and/or tightening torques)
are safety-critical.

If vehicles appear at your service area in which corresponding aftermarket accessories are installed, Please
notify your customers immediately regarding the existing risk of the installed aftermarket
accessories.
In cases of damage with lost brake calliper or Paralever screws, check thoroughly if the original screw
connection has previously been loosened/replaced to install accessories.
If the Paralever screw is lost, especially the rear-wheel cover shown above will leave characteristic damage
behind on the Paralever cover and the angular gearbox, which cannot be explained with another
component. Examples below of characteristic damage.
