AFFECTED VEHICLES
The G26 BEV (i4) are affected by SOP (Start of Production) until 24 July 2022.

SITUATION
Vehicle cannot be charged with either AC or DC, vehicle does not detect a charging cable.
Charging indicator LED on the high voltage charging socket is permanently white.
Check Control message "Charging not possible" is displayed sporadically.
The following fault code stored in the CCU:
031B97 - AC charging, charging interface, charging plug detection: Electrical error

CAUSE
The charging signal lines in the low-voltage harness between CCU (Combined Charging Unit) and rear highvoltage charging socket may be damaged.
The Pilot and/or Proximity signal lines within the harness may be shorted to ground, to the shield or to each
other.

PROCEDURE
Important Warning for Working on the High-Voltage (HV) systems on BMWeBay logo Group vehicles:
Only properly trained personnel, who passed all applicable HV Technical Training Courses, should
perform repairs which require disconnecting, or removal of High Voltage batteryeBay logo components on any
HybrideBay logo or Electric Vehicle. Work performed on High Voltage systems by unqualified persons may
result in severe injury or damage to the vehicle. Additional safety information is found in Repair
Instruction 61 00… “Observe safety instructions when handling electric vehicles”.
Additional Information:
Scheduled Maintenance, or Quality Certification 1 (Pre-Delivery Inspection) on Electric or HybrideBay logo
vehicles does not require HV technical training.
Prior to disconnecting, or the removal of any HV component, the HV system needs to be disabled
and secured (by means of the HV Disconnect Switch) by a properly trained technician, who has a
minimum HV Qualification level after completing the Technical Training Course ST1824 (Alternative
Drive Part 1). Once the vehicle’s HV system is disabled (the “Blitz” - lightning bolt icon displayed in
instrument cluster, see below), a technician without HV Certification may remove a HV component
(e.g., EH Heater, EKK Compressor, EME Control Unit, et.), except for the High Voltage BatteryeBay logo.

High Voltage BatteryeBay logo removal and rework can be performed ONLY by a HV Specialist Technician
(certified by the Technical Training Course ST1825 – Alternative Drive Part 2), AND with a HV BatteryeBay logo
Certification level corresponding to a specific Electric or HybrideBay logo vehicle (e.g., to repair GEN4 battery
of G05 PHEV, certification from Technical Training Course “ST2006 – SP44 HV BatteryeBay logo” is required).
Therefore, the minimum requirement to perform this SIB 12 03 22, is a properly trained technician
with HV Qualification level of Technical Training Course ST1824 (Alternative Drive Part 1) or higher.
For similar cases:
De-energize high-voltage system. Refer to Repair Instructions 61 25 900.
Test the Pilot line (LD_CP) and Proximity lines (LD_PP) for short circuit to ground/shield or
to each other.
Once the short circuit is confirmed, proceed with the steps to replace the shielded line with repair harness
PN 61 11 5 A7A 230 (which contains the Pilot, Proximity lines and Shield) as indicated in:
Attachment 1 “B120322 Procedure to inspect and replace the Pilot and Proximity shielded line”

G26 BEV – Charging not possible CCM - Pilot/Proximity signal
PRCEDURE
In case of customer complaint:
De-energize high-voltage system. Refer to Repair Instructions 61 25 900.
Test the Pilot line (LD_CP) and Proximity lines (LD_PP) for short circuit to ground/shield or
to each other.
• Disconnect the charging socket connector A559*1B and CCU low voltage connector N8*1B

Perform continuity tests (with a DVOM/IMIB) between the three wires (18,19,31 at CCU
or 4,8, 9 at HV charging socket connectors) to confirm customer complaint.

Pin 18 is black (Shield)
Pin 19 is red (LD_CP - Pilot)
Pin 31 is black (LD_PP Proximity)

A559*1B
Pin 4 is black (Shield)
Pin 9 is black (LD_CP - Pilot)
Pin 8 is red (LD_PP - Proximity)









Pin 18 to 31 should be OL
Pin 19 to 31 should be OL
Pin 18 to 19 should be OL
Pin 4 to 8 should be OL
Pin 4 to 9 should be OL
Pin 8 to 9 should be OL
Pin 4 to 18 should be 0 Ohms

Once the short circuit is confirmed, proceed to replace the shielded line with repair harness
PN 61 11 5 A7A 230 (which contains the Pilot, Proximity lines and Shield).

Note:
The repair harness is to be routed parallel to existing vehicle wiring harness and attached to the
outside of the loom (which runs from the firewall bulkhead grommet to the trunk grommet).
The old, shielded line is to remain inside of the existing vehicle harness (from the firewall
bulkhead grommet to the trunk grommet) except near the end sections; where it is to be cut and
removed so that the new shielded line can be joined with the existing wires in the loom near
connectors N8*1B and A559*1B wrap with fabric-tape and secure as original for a clean
installation.

Disconnect connector N8*1B from the
CCU,
Remove the cover cap
Remove the wire tie to gain access to
the wires

Identify and label the wire/pin on both
ends of connectors (N8*1B and A559*1B)
of the NEW repair harness shielded line.


The Shield is the black wire of the
replacement harness.
The Proximity (PP) line is going to
be the white wire with brown
chaser.
The Pilot (CP) Line is going to be
the solid white wire

Replacement harness

Remove pins 18,19 and 31 of the old,
shielded line from connector N8*1B at CCU
and label them accordingly:
Pin 18 is black (Shield)
Pin 19 is red (LD_CP - Pilot line)
Pin 31 is black (LD_PP – Proximity line)
Refer to the wiring diagram
SSP-SSP-SP0000069050 - V.1 for proper
installation.

Gain access to the wiring harness firewall
bulkhead and harness pass-through grommet
under the 12 V battery in the engine
compartment:

Remove the right front strut tower
brace
Remove the 12V battery
Remove the 12V battery

wiring harness firewall grommet and
pass-through grommet (see arrows).

Gain access to the wiring harness bulkhead
grommet inside the passenger compartment:
• Remove carpet and covers at
passenger side kick panel near BDC
• Remove power distribution box,
• Remove BDC (Body Domain
Controller) and bracket
• Access the wiring harness and the
inside of the firewall bulkhead
grommet

Carefully drill a (5mm) hole through
the upper section of the rubber
bulkhead grommet to widen the
opening (see arrow)

Feed the new repair harness through
the hole in the grommet to the engine
compartment/ 12v battery area.

Route the new shielded line parallel to
the existing vehicle harness (see red
line) in the 12V battery area (from the
firewall bulkhead grommet to the
pass-through grommet)

Secure the new shielded line to the
outside of the existing wiring loom with
cable ties/fabric tape as needed (up to
where the old, shielded line was cut,
near the pass-through grommet)

Feed the new shielded line through
the pass-through grommet (see arrow)
to and join with the other wires in the
loom going to CCU connector N8*1B.

On CCU connector N8*1B
Install the pins from the new harness into the
CCU connector N8*1B:
Pin 18 is black (Shield)
Pin 19 is red (LD_CP - Pilot line)
Pin 31 is black (LD_PP – Proximity line)
Refer to the wiring diagram
SSP-SSP-SP0000069050 - V.1 for proper
installation.

Bundle the new shielded wire repair
harness with the rest of the wires in
the loom for a clean installation.

Neatly wrap the loom with fabric tape
and secure as original (as shown).

Remove the carpet and inner sill covers to
gain access to the vehicle wiring harness in
the sill area under the right passenger side
doors and to the right of the luggage
compartment.

Route the repair harness shielded line parallel
to the existing vehicle wiring harness route
from the firewall bulkhead grommet through
the right-side passenger compartment all the
way to the wheel housing harness trunk passthrough grommet.
Note: The old, shielded line is to remain in
the existing harness.
The new, shielded line is be attached to
the outside of the loom (as depicted by the
red line in the illustration).
Secure the new repair harness with fabric
tape and cable ties as needed,
Caution:
Make sure not to kink the new harness or
over tighten the cable ties!
Note: You may use special tool
83 30 2 359 966 (if available) to tighten the
cable ties to setting 3 on the tool so to not
overtighten them.

Locate the rear wheel housing harness trunk
pass-through grommet in the lower right side
of the trunk area.
The rubber grommet may need to be widened
to allow the repair line harness to be fed
through (see illustration).

Remove the last section of the old harness
(shielded line) from the trunk grommet up to
plug A559*1B to gain space for the repair
harness to pass through.

Unplug 12 pin connector A559*1B at
charging plug
Unwrap the electrical tape to separate
the old, shielded line from the rest of
the wires in the loom.
Carefully cut the old, shielded line at
the point where it exits the grommet
inside the trunk and remove the piece
going to connector A559*1B (about 18
inches).
Insulate the exposed end of the
remaining, old, shielded line, inside
the trunk area with electrical tape and
secure out of the way.
Feed the new harness shielded line
through the trunk grommet to
connector A559*1B.

Unpin wires 4,8 and 9 of the old, shielded line
from the charging plug connector A559*1B
and label them accordingly.
Verify these same wire/pin locations on the
new repair harness labels.
Refer to the wiring diagram
SSP-SSP-SP0000069050 - V.1 for proper
installation.

Replace the wires on the correct pins for
connector A559*1B as indicated below.
Pin 4 is black (Shield)
Pin 8 is red (LD_PP - Proximity line
Pin 9 is black (LD_CP - Pilot line)
Note:
There are two black wires that must not be
crossed!!

Bundle the new shielded wire repair
harness with the rest of the wires in
the loom for connector A559*1B (as
shown).

Wrap the loom with fabric tape and
secure to the inner wheel well as
original.

Plug in the connector A559*1B to the
High-voltage charging plug.

Verify your installation and
reassemble the vehicle.

Verify the vehicle charges the Highvoltage battery
