UPDATE FROM WARRANTY OPERATIONS
Hello Team,
The Service Team plays a vital role in achieving high levels of Customer Satisfaction by performing the wiTECH NVP (New
Vehicle Prep) process to inspect, adjust, and verify components are working properly, as well as confirming all Recalls, CSNs
and RSUs/RRTs are completed during the Final Service Inspection.
In addition, the team must make sure the battery and tires are at the correct specifications. Completing these steps will
ensure that customers receive vehicles that are at the highest quality at delivery.
Several dealers have provided their best practices that we would like to share with you:
• Make sure the dealership has a dedicated road test route, which guarantees the four-mile requirement is met
• Make sure the technician initiates a wiTECH session after the road test to complete the odometer check in the road test

section of the NVP

• Monitor the Unsold Inventory Service Actions Report in DealerCONNECT to make sure all service actions are completed.
• Remember this is the Service Department’s “certified” hand off to the Sales Department that this vehicle has been

thoroughly inspected and ready to delight their new Customer

• Implement a robust and consistent process regardless of day or time of the new vehicle delivery to the Customer
• New NVP Dashboard on DealerCONNECT to help dealers track NVP status
• wiTECH New Vehicle Prep Information & Frequently Asked Questions on DealerCONNECT
• Final Service Inspection - "2 Minute Drill" Tip Card

The NVP process is crucial to Customer Satisfaction, both Sales and Service Satisfaction (SSI & CSI) and will show the
customer they are truly valued by your dealership.

Quality Return Parts Are Not To Be Provided To Customers
As a reminder, customers are not able to retain
parts replaced during a warranty repair. Parts
replaced and reimbursed by FCA are FCA’s
property, until the dealer receives a scrap
disposition. Dealers that provide parts to

customers that are related to repairs
reimbursed by FCA are subject to chargeback
without appeal. However, many state laws
advise that, where customers who pay for
repairs are entitled to request a part back.

Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) Guidelines For
(Damage Type - 14, Severity -1) Issues
In 2008, when Warranty Bulletin D-08-27 was
released, dealers were reminded that vehicles
with sheet metal dents, restricted to severity 1
or less than 1” in diameter, with no paint damage
or evidence of physical impact, abrasion, or
forced entry (Damage Type Code 14-Severity 1)
would no longer be considered transportation
damage.
The bulletin also explained, vehicles with the
described imperfections (Damage Type Code 14
Severity 1) required repair. Dealers need to
contact an authorized Paintless Dent Repair
facility and process a warranty claim for
reimbursement.

Over the years, dealers have forgotten that PDR
is the repair process for vehicles with no paint
damage that is less than 1” in diameter and have
started repainting the panel. Over the next few
months, dealers will be reminded that PDR is
the correct process to address these issues.
Starting in July, claims for paint repairs that
should have used PDR will be returned to
dealers as unsupported repairs.
Dealers will need to make sure repairs are
correctly
documented
to
support
reimbursement from either warranty or TCR.
Vehicles with incorrectly documented delivery
information may not be reimbursable.

MVP Rental Allowance
When a customer uses Alternate Transportation
(rental) coverage that is part of their MVP terms
of contract, please remember that the amount
and number of days they are eligible for is

based on their contract. MVP contracts were
not reissued to match the changes warranty
made related to Alternate Transportation
reimbursement rate in 2022.

Warranty Extension Coverage
For a warranty extension coverage to apply to a
repair, the concern must match the cause of the
warranty extension. If the Customer’s concern
does not match the symptom/condition, but has
a similar issue, the warranty extension will not
cover the similar issue.
For example: SB 09-002-14 REV. B for
warranty extension D-14-12 states, Customers
may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp
(MIL) illumination. Upon further investigation the
Technician may find that any the following
Diagnostic Trouble Codes have been set:

P0300- Multiple Cylinder Misfire
P0302- Cylinder 2 Misfire
P0304- Cylinder 4 Misfire
P0306- Cylinder 6 Misfire

If the DTCs listed in the Service Bulletin are the
cause of the MIL, then the repair is covered.
However, for example, if the Customer’s
concern is related to overheating, which
resulted in damaging the head, which is not
listed in the Service Bulletin, the repair of the
head
is
not
covered.

Fluid Reuse vs Replace
Over the past few years Mopar has been
moving to extended life fluids to help reduce the
amount of fluid required to maintain a vehicle.
Technicians need to follow Service Library

directions to determine if fluids such as
antifreeze is to be saved and reused or
replaced. The goal is to reuse, useable fluids
when
possible.

WIC Ask A Question - Last 8 Of VIN
When using the Ask a Question link in WIC,
please make sure to provide the correct details
so that the agents at the WCC can help with the
questions you have submitted. A common
mistake dealers make is to attempt to use the
full VIN in the line that ask for the last 8 of the

VIN. In the screen sample below, you can see
the dealer attempted to use the full VIN in the
field that request the last 8. The result is the
system cuts the VIN to the first 8 characters
provided, which means the section of the VIN
that is needed is removed.

Who Can Help ME?
Are you new to warranty and not sure who to
contact? The Warranty Contact Center has seen
another increase in calls and chats that we are
not able to assist with, which results in having to
refer you to a different resource. To try to

reduce the number of referrals and to help you
get the assistance you need the first time, please
refer to the “Finding the Right Resources to
Assist You” article from the April 2021 warranty
newsletter.

In addition to the resources found in the April
2021 newsletter, dealers also have access to
DealerCONNECT Support Help Center. To
access, click on Support (see below) at the top of

the DealerCONNECT site. Once on the support
page, select DealerCONNECT Support Help
Center, a new window will open similar to WIC,
but with a new and wider variety of resources.

If dealers need assistance with MVP, they can
access the MVP Live Chat, found in
DealerCONNECT > Service Contract > Dealer
Sales.

The MVP dealer chat can assist dealers with
support for all inquiries related to contract sales
support and administration.

Servicing Analog Backup Cameras For Blurry Image –
MY 2019 – 2023 – RU, LX, LA, LD, DS, KL, WK, WD
When inspecting a camera for blurry image,
verify that the lens does not have any scratches
and has been cleaned. Also, verify if the camera
is an analog or digital. Analog cameras have a
much lower quality image compared to newer
digital cameras and the customer may believe
the image is blurry due to the limitations of the
camera itself. Replacement of a blurry analog
camera will most likely not improve the image
quality and cause the customer to be
dissatisfied with the repair.

When testing for a blurry image, ensure the lens
is clear of scratches/debris and make sure to
examine the image in an indoor setting. Analog
cameras may show a degraded image in certain
lighting environments.
As reference only, analog and digital cameras
can be identified by the type of connector they
have. All the vehicle lines related to this subject
are equipped with analog cameras and no
inspection
is
necessary
to
confirm.

The quality of the image may vary in different vehicles. Below is a range of images that we currently expect
from an analog camera.

Removal Of The Engine Cover On 3.6L Engines –
MY 2021 – 2023 – JT, JL, WL, DT, WD
Following an increase in dealer inquiries
regarding missing engine covers from both the
WL and JL using the 3.6L Engine, the FCA Service

team is working to notify the extended dealer
network regarding appropriate application of
engine covers on vehicles.

WL 3.6L:
Since launch of the WL with the 3.6L engine, the
engine cover has only been applied to the Summit
and Overland trim grades. Vehicles built with the
3.6L Engine in the Laredo and Limited trim grades

DO NOT have an engine cover applied. Please
note that this notice is NOT applicable to the
other engine variants, which receive an engine
cover.

JL / JT 3.6L:
For the Wrangler and Gladiator equipped with the
3.6L engine, the engine cover was removed on

11/06/2021. Following this point, no vehicles were
built with the engine cover.

WD 3.6L:
For the Durango, the engine cover is slated to be
removed at the end of August of 2022

(08/29/2022). From this point on, any Durango’s
built with the 3.6L Engine, regardless of trim
grade, will be built WITHOUT an engine cover.

DT 3.6L:
For the Ram 1500, the engine cover is scheduled
to be removed 05/22/2022. From this point on
any Ram 1500’s built with the 3.6L Engine,
regardless

of trim grade, will be built WITHOUT an engine
cover. Please note that prior to the 100%
removal of the cover, it was NOT applied to high
fuel efficiency versions of the truck.
