This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B65 16 22 dated October 2022.
What’s New:
Change in Parts Section

Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer
delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure
the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Affected vehicles which require this Campaign to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked
either in AIR, the “Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System), ISPA NEXT or
Warranty Vehicle Inquiry.

See the Claim Information section for special instructions that apply to this Service Action.

SITUATION
The Sirius® Satellite Radio is inoperative.

CAUSE
The affected vehicles were produced with “Preparation BMW Satellite Radio” (option code SA 693) instead
of with “Satellite Radio” (option code SA 655) as listed.

This also means the vehicle was built with a Receiver Audio Module (RAM) without Sirius® Satellite Radio
(SDARS) capability.

Replace the RAM and retrofit the Satellite Radio.

PROCEDURE
Remove and replace the Receiver Audio Module (RAM) as per repair instructions 65 12 400 “Removing
and installing the receiver audio module (with holder)”.

Then perform the retrofit for SDARS using ISTA.
Connect the battery charger to the vehicle
Connect the programming system to the vehicle (ISTA 4)
Select the Satellite Radio retrofit option using the following path:
“Vehicle Management”
“Vehicle Modification”
“Retrofit”
“Retrofitting satellite radio SDARS”
Determine measures plan
Accept and fully work through the measures plan with the control units to be programmed/encoded
and enabled
Follow the rework list
Depending on the rework list, carry out a vehicle test and delete the fault memory if needed
After the programming has been completed, check functionality of the systems and satellite radio.

Note 1: ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the
latest software.

Note 2: The VIN-specific required enabling code 1BE has already been downloaded for all affected vehicles
by BMW of North America’s Technical Service Department at no cost to the BMW center. The code will be
imported to each vehicle automatically during the ISTA retrofit procedure.

Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SIB 04 23 10).

use screws, nuts, and seals, which must be replaced or installed according to the ISTA repair
instructions/ETK, must be selected from the Electronic Parts Catalogue, or other approved BMW resources,
according to the respective vehicle type. Invoiced these items separately under the Service Action repair
Defect Code listed in this bulletin.

CLAIM INFORMATION
Note: Please do not use Defect Code 85 10 03 45 00 for this claim submission. This
defect code is not active for claim submission; it is utilized only to flag the vehicles for
this repair. Claims entered with this defect code will be rejected. Use the Defect Code
shown below.
During this workshop visit, the affected vehicle may also show one or more programming and
encoding Technical Campaign repairs open, the programming and encoding procedure may only be
invoiced one time.

After retrofitting the correct receiver audio module (RAM), select one of these open Technical
Campaigns to perform and submit for updating the vehicle’s software to the required I-level or
higher.
Please be sure to also perform any additional work (before and/or after, including attaching
labels) as required by the open campaigns on the vehicle. Close any other open programming
and encoding Campaign repairs as outlined in the corresponding Service Information Bulletin.

As determine by the above, the retrofit procedure below that applies is covered one-time under the
terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.

This procedure automatically reprograms and encodes any vehicle control modules that do not have
the latest software I-level.
If one or more control modules fail during the reprogramming procedure, claim the required
consequential repair work procedures to address this issue (including performing the IRAP Control
Unit Recovery first as required, refer to the SIB in AIR) under the Defect Code in this bulletin with the
labor operations in AIR that apply.
Please explain the additional work procedures that were performed (The why and the what) on the
repair order and in the claim comments.
For covered repairs that address control module failures that occurred prior to performing this
reprogramming procedure, claim this work with the Defect Code and labor operations (including the
diagnosis that applies*) in AIR that apply.
