Chassis Switch Functionality: Differences

Between BEV And Diesel Vehicles



The functionality of the chassis switch differs between the diesel engine

and the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). See the detailed descriptions

below.
Diesel Vehicle

• On the diesel vehicle the switch disconnects all power to the vehicle, so

when parking or storing the vehicle, it is recommended this switch be

turned off.

• When this switch is turned off there is low power consumption, which

allows the 12V batteries to remain charged.
Battery Electric Vehicle

Understanding how it works:

• The ATVSA (Automatic Traction Voltage System Activation) uses the

600V system to keep the 24/12V system charged.

• The ATVSA (Automatic Traction Voltage System Activation) awakes

every 2 hours to check voltages and temperatures. ( 21/12v batteries are

On a BEV, the switch only disconnects the 600V system, leaving the

24/12V system powered on. If an electric vehicle is parked with this

switch off, the 24/12V batteries will eventually drain over time.

The owner's manual,as well as the body builder manual, have specific

parking instructions for a BEV depending on the length of time the

vehicle will be parked. These instructions detail whether the chassis

switch should be left on or turned off.

