THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL
(RRT) 17-065. ALL APPLICABLE SOLD AND UN-SOLD RRT VIN’s HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO
VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE, USE VIP OR
PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. ALL REPAIRS ARE REIMBURSABLE
WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF WARRANTY.
THE wiTECH 2 SOFTWARE IS REQUIRED TO BE AT THE LATEST RELEASE BEFORE
PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE.
SUBJECT:
Audio System Warning Light Illuminated
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves checking and installing protective cover for amplifier.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: NAFTA.
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before May 24, 2017 (MDH 0524XX)
equipped with the Harman Kardon Premium Audio System (Sales Codes RCA).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe that the Audio system warning light is illuminated, the radio will turn on
but with no audio sound.
Technician may also find these Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):
• U1746-87 - AMP (Amplifier Module)-Missing Message.
• B10AA-4A - Check Configuration Failed-Incorrect Component Installed.
• U197C-83 - Message Transm2 Plausibility Error-Value Of Signal Protection Calculation
Incorrect.
• U0186-31 - Lost Communication With Audio Amplifier - No Signal.

DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in
TechCONNECT, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom
conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and
repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers
that describe the symptom/condition listed above or if the technician finds the DTC, perform the
Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Access the amplifier located at the inner left rear quarter panel. Refer to the detailed service
procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info>08 Electrical/8A - Audio/Video/Entertainment/Connectivity/Amplifier/Removal.
2. Remove the amplifier connectors and inspect for corrosion as shown in (Fig. 1) .

3. Is the amplifier and/or wire harness connector corroded or was the protective cover missing?
• YES>>> Proceed to repair procedure in Step 4.
• NO>>> Install the protective cover as in (Fig. 2) . This bulletin has been completed, use
inspect and cover LOP (08-60-07-9F) to close the active RRT.

-34. Install the protective cover on the AMP as shown in (Fig. 2) .
NOTE: Prior to the AMP installation the AMP protective sleeve must be installed.

5. Install a new amplifier and wiring harness making sure the AMP protective sleeve is properly
installed as in (Fig. 3) . Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT>
TechCONNECT under: Service Info>08 - Electrical/8A - Audio/Video/Entertainment/
Connectivity/Amplifier/Installation.

NOTE: If corrosion on the electrical connector or water is found in the trunk area, perform
water leak test and normal diagnosis should be performed. Refer to the detailed
service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service
Info>23 - Body/Diagnosis and Testing>Water Leaks.
NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do
not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
6. Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in
TechCONNECT, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. Reprogram the AMP
with the latest software. Detailed instructions for flashing control modules using the wiTECH
Diagnostic Application are available by selecting the application’s “HELP” tab.
7. Clear any DTCs that may have been set in any modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH
application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allows them to be cleared.
8. Using wiTECH, perform the 9Proxi Alignment Procedure9 to the vehicle. This routine is available
in the 9Vehicle Preparations9 tab located in the left column under 9Activities9.
9. Using wiTECH clear any DTCs which may have been set during the 9Proxi Alignment
Procedure9.

NOTE: The expected completion time for the flash download portion of this procedure is
approximately 7 minutes. Actual flash download times may be affected by vehicle
connection and network capabilities.

FAILURE CODE:
The dealer must choose which failure code to use depending on if this is a Rapid Response
Transmittal (RRT) or Service Bulletin.
• If the customer’s concern matches the SYMPTOM/CONDITION identified in the Service
Bulletin, failure code CC is to be used. When utilizing this failure code, the 3C’s must be
supplied.
• The failure code “RF” (Required Flash) can no longer be used on Service Bulletin flashes. The
“RF” failure code can only be used on RRT.
• The “RF” failure code is required for essential module flash/reprogramming and can only be
used after confirmation that the VIN is included on the RRT.
