Issue:
Wood stiles are delaminating due to the vendor changing the glue used for the wrapped stiles. If the stile
has minor delamination the repair below can be performed. If the delamination is excessive the entire
stile may be replaced. Before repairing/replacing stiles, pre-authorization (pictures required) needs to
be obtained for the time requested for the repair or replacement.

Tools Required:
-

Painters tape
4” Putty knife
150 Grit sand paper
Utility knife
Putty stick

Part(s) Required:

For repair- order or use stock overlay or seam tape for stile color.

For stile replacement- use stock or contact parts for assistance in ordering the correct stile
color.

Stile Delamination Seam Tape Overlay Repair
- Peel delaminating paper back until you reach the point of where the glue
is holding.
- Tear the paper across the stile.
- Do not continue down the stile into the section where the glue
holds.
- Continuing down the stile will remove glue and possibly substrate.
- Use painter’s tape to protect surrounding materials from sanding.
- Using 150 grit sandpaper, feather down the torn edge.
- Smoothing out the transition.
- Do not sand the glue or substrate.
- Clean stile with dry dusting cloth
- Size the width of seam tape to match stile.
- Cut seam tape a bit longer than stile.
- Peel backing exposing about 1” of glue and apply over painter’s tape.
- Painter’s tape will help with removal of scrap.
- Use spatula/squeegee or putty knife to smooth seam tape and to remove
air bubbles.
- Trim edges of seam tape to length.
- Work the edge of seam tape with finger to crease the corner and seal tape
along edge.
- Wrap seam tape around back of stile.
- On finished edges, use the same process
- to crease the corner
- seal the edge
- Use spatula/squeegee or putty knife to work seam tape into corner.
- Trim off excess seam tape with razor knife.
- Use spatula/squeegee or putty knife to press seam tape into corner.
- Trim of excess seam tape at the intersection of stiles on each end with
razor knife.
