Condition
Some technicians may determine that the fuel feed pipe or fuel rail needs to be removed
and replaced in order to perform a specific repair, then a new fuel feed pipe along with the
fuel rail and several other components will need to be installed to complete the repair.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a dimensional change to the fuel feed pipe and fuel rail
assembly during the 2019 model year. This change prompted a release of a 2nd design
fuel feed pipe, fuel rail assembly, oil cooler pipe and engine front cover. This second
design fuel feed pipe or fuel rail assembly will not back service an engine that was
originally equipped with the 1st design fuel feed pipe, fuel rail assembly or engine front
cover.
To retrofit the engine to accommodate these 2nd design parts differences, it will be
necessary to replace the fuel rail assembly, fuel feed pipe and engine oil cooler pipe to
completely update the engine to the latest service content. There were also 2 designs of
the engine front cover that were released in production. One with the fuel pipe channel
(shown below) and one without. Before ordering the parts, you will need to determine
which front cover you have. If you have the 1st design front cover (shown below), you will
need to order a new engine front cover to complete the repair. If the front cover does not
have the channel, you do not need to replace the engine front cover.
