Introduction
Some 2017 – 2022 model year RX 350 and RX 450h vehicles may exhibit water leaking from the
moon roof when going through a high-pressure rinse cycle car wash. In most cases, a small
amount of water is either missing or bouncing off the rain gutter and dripping into the interior
(center console, seat, driver, etc.).
NOTE
The condition may occur when the vehicle is going through a high-pressure rinse cycle or dry-air blower
mode car wash with the sunshade in an open position.

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition exists.
Does the vehicle exhibit water leaking from the moon roof when going through a highpressure rinse cycle car wash?
NOTE
A small amount of water may drip into the interior when the vehicle is going through a high-pressure
rinse cycle or dry-air blower mode car wash with the sunshade in the open position.
YES — Continue to step 2.
NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual?
NOTE
If water drips but is contained inside the rain gutter, this condition is acceptable by design
(blue arrow in Figure 1).

use an alcohol pad cleaner to wipe the
front wall of the drip tray assembly (C)
where the Channel, Roof Drip Molding
(63214-48040) will be attached.

5. Apply 3M™ PAC Primer K-500 to the front
wall of the drip tray where the Channel,
Roof Drip Molding (63214-48040) will be
attached. Primer should be applied to the
same cleaning area described in step 4.

Allow the area to dry for AT LEAST two
minutes and a MAXIMUM of four minutes.
Ensure the primer is completely dry BEFORE
continuing to the next step.

6. Install the NEW Channel, Roof Drip
Molding (63214-48040) to the drip
tray wall.
Apply to Front Wall of Drip Tray

B. Attach the double-sided tape to the drip
tray assembly. Starting from the lefthand pivot arm (A) and working to the
right-hand pivot arm, carefully align the
adhesion tape to fully engage and
secure to the drip tray wall.

Apply the force of 49N (min) (11.015 lbf)
and press with two fingers across the
entire length of the molding while
installing to ensure good bonding of the
double-sided tape adhesion to the drip
tray assembly.

8. Visually check to confirm the molding is attached properly to the drip tray assembly.
Open and close the moon roof assembly to make sure there is no abnormal noise due to
binding or contact of molding during operation.
